A 2 wheel drive car is cheaper than a 4 wheel drive car. Is it smart to buy a 2 wheel drive car just to save some money? How much better is a 4 wheel drive car vs a 2 wheel drive car?

Ok, so my parents want to get me a new car, probably a 2007/2008 Hyundai Tiburon, so I can have it through out college and because it has a 10yr warranty. The only problem is I don't really want that car. I mean its great to get a new car, don't get me wrong, and its really nice looking, but there are cars that I like more, such as the 1994 Nissan 240SX convertible. I also don't want them to buy it for me and I know that sounds weird, but I want to buy my own car so I can appreciate it more, because I paid for it myself. They also don't want me to buy my own car because it would take away from my "college spending money". I have about 4G's in the bank now and I know I have enough to buy one. This why I need help. How can I convince my parents to let me buy my own car of the kind I want?

Thanks,
BDD

I have an 06' Liberty, Strawberry Red, with a lift, aftermarket wheels & tires, LOADED. Only 19,000 miles on it, perfect condition. I've been trying to sell it for about 5 months, in an area where LOTS of people drive 4x4's. I have it priced $ 2,000 below LOW book, and not 1 call. I've advertised on the web, paper, have signs on it, etc. Is there some bad scuttlebutt out there about Libertys that I haven't heard ? The consumer reports all say it's a good vehicle & it's held it's value really well... I'm stumped !

I currently have a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am but it needs a couple thousand dollars in repairs, (long story) my mom is mad at my dad and to piss him off she is buying me a car but only for $12k.
Just wondering what I could get under that price that would be at least comparable in size with my Grand Am and in automatic.
Thanks.

Well I know it is logical to be cheaper but sometimes the difference between the price of the new car and the one of the older car is extremly big.

I cancelled my car purchase last week after putting a £200 deposit down. I spoke to the dealer today for the first time and i have now been talked into going to look at a cheaper one on saturday. I really am so stressed out by all this i just want to tell them i do NOT want to buy a car right now anymore. If all i will loose is my deposit then i am willing to let this happen just to get out of it! Could someone tell me if i telll them they can keep my deposit and apologise for wasting their time will this really be the end of it. I really feel that because i'm a girl who doesnt know much about cars i'm being pushed and pushed into things!

I believe I may be a car salesperson's worst nightmare.

By the time I arrive at the lot, I will already have financing lined up (through my credit union, which offered me a low rate, because my credit score is a near-perfect 796).

I know exactly what model, make and color of car I want, and plan to order from the factory because no local dealers have a car with my exact specifications. I will walk away if the dealer tries to sell me a car off their lot.

I plan to summarily & firmly reject all offers of dealer financing, as well as extras such as extended warranty, rustproofing crap, Lojack, etc,,

If the dealer makes me put a deposit on a factory-ordered car, I will, but only if the dealer guarantees (in writing) that it's fully refundable.

Furthermore, I'm a cynical, mistrustful, Edmunds-spouting jerk. I am sure the dealer won't be able to screw me, but I am wondering how they will treat me in return for my toughness?

(no offense to any car salesperson reading this)

I try to borrow money from friends,so i dont have to pay any interest to the dealership or the bank. my friends are going to give me the cashier's check, so i can pay with them. Well, from what i heard, if you pay more than $9000, the dealership will have to report us to the IRS.
So I am just wondering, if i borrow the money from my friend and they give the the cashier's checks, are they still going to report me to IRS???????
thank you very much guys.

Long story short, I just bought a 2007 Camry. Now, my question is, should I be getting the rust proof and paint sealant for my car since I live in a state that has winters? I am not sure if it is worth it or not... Just wondering what most people think and if most people got it for their brand new cars as well. Everything, rust proof and paint sealant is around 600, not including tax at Toyota.

My husband found a 1989 Chevrolet standard shift, V-6, with a plow. The gentleman is asking 2345.00 after taxes, registration, and the like. Now the kicker. - It has 148,000 miles, I cannot drive it (don't know how to drive standard), can't get the kids in (standard cab), has extensive body rot on not only truck but on plow itself. I told him that I investigated it on Bluebook.com and found it to be worth a max of 1600 if it was in excellent condition. He says I'm fooling myself. But the guy has us over a barrel because we need him more than he needs us. We have to have our driveway plowed as it is over 1,000 feet long and each and every time you hire someone it is $50 and that is for one shot/one line down the middle no neatness and no widening. Should we just give in or spend unknown money on an unknown winter season.
