The new car offer is a nice gesture on your parents part--have you actually discussed the issue of a different car purchased by you??4 grand is not a lot of money--you can use that up quickly on a junky used car despite what they say about how good it is. Rutgers is in our town and cars get vandalized all the time--especially convertibles and those pimped out cars with beer can mufflers--they are destroyed here. Your parents are offering a car that does not draw attention to itself for stealing, unless you leave crap inside so people can see it. Go with the plain car for a while--save your 4 grand and be concentrating on college so you can buy a cooler car in 4 years. You'll be glad you did down the road. Good luck in school

Take the Tiberon.
If you're a new driver, you have no idea what the frustration of dealing with an old beater car is like. I paid most of my own way through college, and drove a string of junkers. And $4G won't buy a lot of car these days, trust me. Or go out and look. How does a smelly minivan with 150,000 miles sound? After a few days, you'll wish you had the Tiberon.
Besides, that 240SX is 13 years old, it's probably been driven hard, and you'll need another grand in tires, brakes, tie rod ends, and CV joints to make it driveable. And then that won't address the oil it burns. Don't even try to guess what the insurance will cost you. Better yet - go down to the insurance agency and ask them for a quote. I bet your jaw hits the floor.
So suck it up, drive the econobox, and be happy you're getting a new car. My son is driving that minivan. Then when you graduate, you can go get something fun.
If you can afford the insurance on it.

it would be much cheaper to buy a 2-4 thousand dollar car, then put some money in the bank so that when it tears up you can fix it or buy another one. Plus, right now you can go to any car lot in america and get a really nice modern car with AC/heat and all the features for a couple grand.
buying a new car is a terrible investment. My friend bought a protoge in 94 and made monthly payments on for it for 12 years, it cost a fortune and after 10 years it is not even worth 2000.
Also, if you are a young person your insurance is going to cost a fortune, mine was about 2000 a year in high school for just liability coverage. If they put you in a new car you will be required to get full coverage insurance because of the loans, and that is going to kill you.

Get your college degree and then get any car you want. IF you are going to take your schooling seriously then you will not have the need to have a car designed to sport around in because you can't drive with your nose buried in books which is what it will take to earn the right go go sporting around. You sport now and you will fail in your attempt at school so be honest with yourself as to what you really want now and out of life in general.

Man I know what you mean, but take the freebie and put your emotions in check. Get ahead as much and as fast as you can of debt. You could also borrow against the new vehicle if its paid for and still buy the Nissan. Buy paying payments you can build your credit. 2 cars and you win.

So just how nuts are you for wanting to turning down a brand new car that your parents want to give you.
None of your reasons you state make a good argument for supporting you point of view. It just sounds like you're set in your ways and refuse to do anything that isn't your idea.

sure, you could carry your grades up, it is the factor of the full ingredient. It a reward for paying for stable grades, no longer a modern merely because of the fact you exist. Be grateful you have the prospect to get a working automobile. My father and mom trolled me and gave me a automobile that were totaled two times in the past and wasn't working.
