What kind of car should we get for a 16 yr old kid for his first car and it has to be under $22,000??? we would like it to be safe for him and not to fast either.

There is no need to spend anything close to $22,000. There are many good used cars that would more than adequately serve the purpose for under $5000. The money you save can be used toward the kid's college education. Some cars that come to mind are older Honda Accords, Toyota Camrys, Volvo 740/760/940/960, Nissan Stanza/Altima/Maxima, or, if gas mileage is not an issue, Ford Crown Victoria/Mercury Grand Marquis. These are reliable, safe cars that are not overly powerful or fast.

There are plenty of underpowered cars out there that you could buy your son that have all the safety bells and whistles, but it won't guarantee he will be safe. That has to come from you with an education about driving with others, talking and text messaging on his phone and speed information. Too many kids have cars without any idea about the rules once they are behind the wheel. Before investing in a car of any price, you need to have many discussions about the responsibility of driving.

Get the VW Rabbit for him, it starts at $14,990, looks pretty cool, and get 30 mpg on the highway. Also is the safest car on the market for your money. But if you want something a bit cooler for him get him the Volvo C30 starting at $23,000, that car is every penny worth.

you might want to consider a chevy cobalt they come with air bags both front and side cutain and anti locks brakes . they are also sporty looking and are availble in 2 dooor or 4 door they also come with with a 5 yr 100,000 mile warranty. the is an eco tech 4 cyl and has proven to be very reliable .

Get something used...for 22 grand my gosh get him what he wants lol u can get a very nice chevrolet pick up or if hes into cars trans ams are great

honda civic. it is not fast, but it is very safe, good on gas, reliable and should last him through colloge. the top of the line civic is under 22 grand. they range from 15-21 grand
