Buying & Selling - September 2007

I am considering buying a leased car at the residual value, keeping it for 6-12 months, and then selling it to my son. I realize I will be responsible for the sales tax when I purchase it (since I've already only paid sales tax on the depreciation). However, when I sell it to my son, will he then also be responsible for sales tax? Seems to me the state already collected the tax on the full value of the car when I bought it. Isn't this double taxation. BTW, I live in NJ.

Yes like i said i am trading my car for another car. This is a private party transaction and there is no money involved. Both of the cars are paid off and have no leins, also both owners have the titles to the cars. So, my question is do i need to get a bill of sale if SO how do i get one. I live in Alabama, Usa.

My ex stopped making the payments on a car that is in my name. i know signing for it was a stupid thing to do and i'm trying to get rid of the car and deal with the consequences. i can't sell it, i've been trying, and chrysler won't take the darn thing back under voluntary repossession! i've already told them i can't make the payments! what's the difference between taking it now and taking it in 9 months when i haven't sent them a dime! what do i do with this stupid car?!?!!?!? i have my own car that i'm making payments on - will they try to take that one?

My wife and I on Saturday went to a mega used car lot about 100 miles from home and found ourselves a gem of a car. We talked to the saleman and said we were interested and then he started talking about when we wanted to pick the car up. We were confused because we said, "Now would be great." He told us that the car didn't have the State Inspection and all cars which were sold got an oil change (it was 7:30 on Saturday night and they closed at 8). He also said that any problems from the inspection would be fixed at no cost to us obviously.
So my question...why wouldn't they do a State Inspection on EVERY car on their lot? It could turn out that the whole exaust system might need to be replaced and we've already agreed upon a price, so now they're stuck with the repairs (not that I think the exaust system needs work...just an example).
Just wondering if anybody has a good reason they WOULDN'T do an inspection.
Thanks!

I like this car but after inspection it proved to have a minor oil leak should I avoid? I am not willing to spend hundreds in repairs.

We purchased a car this weekend, and paid by check in full. However, when we got home, we realized the contract was a Retail Installment Agreement (citing a specific loan amount). After spending an hour in the finance office fending off the finance guys repeated offer to sell us on stuff, we were too mentally exhausted to notice. Is this standard practice, or did we get scammed?

I have just started looking for a new car and have a limited budget £2,000 - and the best cars that seem to be popping up with low mileage and pretty new are Daewoos or KAs - any good points bad points on either of these two - or are they a no go!!

99 saturn sc1 3 door coupe with108k for $3500. It has some scratches and the driver's door makes a cracking noise everytime you open it. But i guess no big deal. The only problem the owner told me is about a year ago the car got towed for parking in the wrong place and after that the check engine light was on. They had a mechanic turn it off and it runs fine now.

So any thought?

i have my permit and my parents are thinking of buying me a car. however, they are being unfair about it. i have an undying hatred of cloth seats. i know of some used cars with leather seats for 3,000 dollars. my parents want to buy a new car with cloth seats for 15,000 dollars. they say they are introducing me to the real world where i dont always get what i want.

first of all, that is not introducing me to the real world at all. in the real world if you dont have much money, you are more likely to get a 3,000 dollar used car than a 15,000 dollar new car.

i dont understand why they care so much if the car i want costs 1/5 of the price of the car they want to buy me. yes, they are paying but if i want a cheaper car they should be happy that they save money
