i have my permit and my parents are thinking of buying me a car. however, they are being unfair about it. i have an undying hatred of cloth seats. i know of some used cars with leather seats for 3,000 dollars. my parents want to buy a new car with cloth seats for 15,000 dollars. they say they are introducing me to the real world where i dont always get what i want.

first of all, that is not introducing me to the real world at all. in the real world if you dont have much money, you are more likely to get a 3,000 dollar used car than a 15,000 dollar new car.

i dont understand why they care so much if the car i want costs 1/5 of the price of the car they want to buy me. yes, they are paying but if i want a cheaper car they should be happy that they save money

whoever answered with this: When I was raising my three boys, the rule was:

"If you don't like what I buy for you, then go out and earn your own money and buy your own (clothes, shoes, food, cars, etc). Otherwise, Shut UP!"

but ask yourself...would you rather spend 15,000 dollars on something for your son when you could get the same item for 3,000?

i am not thankful that they are willing to spend that much money on me. i think it makes no sense that i want a cheaper car but they refuse to buy it even though it would save them money

i say my parents should count themselves lucky. it could be much worse. what if i demanded a 15,000 car but all they could afford was 3,000? they should just be happy they can make me happy AND save money

this is for bfcookie2002: the car is only 3,000 dollars because it is used. thats normal for used cars. and about the car lasting longer...i go off to college in 2 years so i wouldnt have the car for long anyway

this is comparable to the following scenario (something i made up but it could happen):

you have to buy a suit for a fancy gathering. your parents are buying it. there is a nice suit you really want on sale, but your parents end up buying a more expensive suit. it makes no sense

OK in your right hand I place 3,000 In your left hand i place 15,000 all you have to do is hand me one hand or the money back an keep the other witch would you keep ?
The next idea take the car they want to give you an than go get some leather seat covers.
I hate leather because its hot in the summer cold in the winter an must be kept clean or it will dry out an crack, rip, tear . Its cost a lot more to repair an match colors.
As a parent if i buy you a new car that you take to school with you It will be a lot safer than a used one. It will be less to repair because it will have a warranty. It will have the latest safety equip. That means lower ins. So now as a parent I just saved money in 4 different ways and saved you a few dollars also. Oh yea an less stress and that can be a100 percent savings .

NEVER LOOK A GIFT HORSE IN THE MOUTH.

Who cares, you are lucky enough to just get a 15,000 dollar car! My parents will only pay 3,000 for mine, and that never includes leather seats. What is wrong with cloth seats? I think you are being way to picky. Your parents just want you to be safe, newer cars last longer and they don't have problems when you buy them (for the most part) Just go with the 15000 dollar car, or just give it to me and I will give you my 3,000 dollar car. NO LEATHER SEATS!! Its not the end of the world, at least your parents will buy you a nice car, or can afford you a nice car! Be thankful of what you can get!

Hope this helps!

A 3,000 dollar car won't last as long as a 15,000 dollar car. In the long run your parents will be paying more than 15,000 dollars to fix the 3,000 dollar car or replace it all together. Believe me 15,000 dollar car will last a lot longer. Your parents might not trust people for selling a 3,000 dollar car, why is it that cheap in the first place?

What is the real reason you are not happy? Because you are not getting leather seats?? Or is it beacuse you are not getting what you want?? You can't always get what you want, just get over it, your parents are buying something that is safe a reliable for you and all you are doing is turning them down!

Suits are totally different than a car! I know they would love to save money, but they are practically saving your life with a safer car! I don't get why you don't understand! Also are you not going to take a car to college? Most people do if they have one!

See, I knew they wanted you to have a safe reliable car! Congrats!

A $3000 car will cost you a LOT more in repairs than that $15,000 car costs. If you hate cloth seats so much then maybe you should look around you and see how many kids don't get any car from their parents and have to have their friends drive them around. If that doesn't work then just put some pants on and you wont feel the cloth on your tooshie.

I'm not really sure what you're asking. If you're asking how to make your parents buy you a car with leather seats, then you should probably just buy leather seat covers for your new car. Buy it on your own. And since you rather have a pre-owned car, why not buy a pre-owned leather seat covers instead? Look at it this way, you get a brand new car, and still have leather seats. So, you get what you want. Whatever works for you. :)

My parents did that! I wanted a $3000 car with leather seats, and they got me a $8000 one with cloth seats, and I cant STAND cloth seats. I dunno why, I guess I just hate the way they feel, it feels so gross. I dont like how things get stuck in the cloth and and cling to it and it gets filled with clumps and bits of nastiness. Ahhhhh. Its gross. I am so weird.

But...they bought it :( And I had no choice but to say thanks and drive it because I've always had the opinion that anyone who complains about an expensive gift given to them by their parents is a spoiled idiot -.-

So yea.......unless you feel like saving up money and buying the car you want, your not really allowed to complain. Just grin and bear it, and try to forget the fact that its cloth.

Why don't you say you want cloth seats so they give your leather? Better yet, have the car bought in your name, sell it, but the car you want with leather seats and have some extra spending money.

You're right, it's totally unfair. Refuse to accept their gift, have them return it and get a job, save your money, get your own car and show them a thing or two. By golly, you have your rights!

Don't let them pay for your insurance either. Be independent and get your own!

Be grateful that you're even getting a car. I'm 17, have my license and don't have my own car.
