Thank you for the info. I am looking to buy a car off ebay and not sure how an independent mechanic would be reputable in the area. I have bought cars off ebay before, and have good experiences. But, have heard things about carfax being inaccurate.

I am employed at a New car Dealer.
I have used both Carfax & Autocheck
I have found errors with both but this is a rarity.

I actually prefer Autocheck because the report is easier to read, (better layout) & provides a little more information than Carfax.
Autocheck is a little cheaper, so I find it has more value for the money.

There is another site that offers a similar paid service, however I have no experience with it.
http://www.vin-check.net/
it appears to be priced about the same as Autocheck

The best report you can run on a used car is the one your mechanic gives you after he inspects the vehicle.

Never buy a used car without a complete mechanical inspection by a independent certified mechanic that you trust.

Carfax is not perfect. It is far from the final answer. It's a good tool but there are many problems or repairs that can happen on a car that never make it to the Carfax database.

Carfax.com is the most reliable.
