do not under any circumstances accept the bankers draft as some one as said it is as good as money more ppl lose items to forged drafts than cheques.until it as actuall y cleared in the bank it is a worthless bit of paper.

I REPEAT DONT PART WITH YOUR CAR UNTIL THE CASH IS IN YOUR HAND

dont take any notice please of ppl that are telling you it is as good as cash it is not cash is the only thing that is as good IS cash.
ASK YOURSELF THIS QUESTION WHY SHOULD SOMEONE OFFER YOU A BANKERS DRAFT WHEN IT IS JUST AS SIMPLE TO WITHDRAW THE MONEY FROM THE BANK WHILE YOU ARE ALREADY IN THE BANK, AND ALSO IT COST APPROX £25 TO OBTAIN A BANKERS DRAFT FROM A BANK SO ASK YOURSELF ALSO WOULD YOU PAY THAT AMOUNT OF MONEY TO GET A DRAFT.
PLEASE BELIEVE ME DRAFTS AND 419 AND NIGERIA CROP UP IN MORE DIFFERENT SCAMS EVERY DAY
TAKE NO NOTICE OF THE SO CALLED EDUCATED PPL ON HERE TELLING YOU IT IS OK IT AINT

the best solution take the check or bankers draft put it in the bank until it is clear hold on to the car until u know the check or bankers draft do not bounce then contact the buyer to collect the car if you cant wait until it is clear ask for cash and write a bill of sale that he takes the car has he sees it you sign it and so does he also get a friend has ur witness he keeps one copy you keep the other so that there is no turning back

Take note of wilfred b, ask the purchaser which bank issued the draft and contact them directly. DO NOT ring the number the purchaser may give for the bank as this may be fake. A draft is only as good as money if it's a real one!
Fraudsters are very clever and devious, do not trust him until you have the funds.
£3000 is not a lot of money these days so ask yourself why he wants to use a bankers draft.

Reading most of these answers must really warm the hearts of conmen everywhere, so many statistics just waiting to happen!

Take the bankers draft to the bank and let them look at it cos there are some very good forgeries.A bankers draft is as good as cash, but you do get forgeries and you wont be able to tell,so ask at the bank,

A genuine bakers draft is as good as cash, as it has to be paid for up front before it's issued. HOWEVER there are forgeries around and would you know how to spot one? Only release the car once your bank has confirmed that the draft has been accepted and paid. Tell your guy that is what you will do, he may wish to give you cash instead.

PS in view of some of the erroneous answers on here, I'd add, my friend, that ringing the issuing bank STILL will not guarantee the funds will be paid - they will say "if it was in our hands and in order, it would be paid" (or not, as the case may be). It must be presented through the banking system before it is declared paid, until the bank see it they cannot confirm if it is an original or a duplicate/forgery.

I'm sure your customer is kosher, but I'd hate for you to be caught!

Yes a bankers draft is as good as cash.

The money was taken from his account by his bank before they gave him the draft.

The draft is irrevocable (i.e. can't be stopped) so once he hands it over to you it's as good as him handing you cash.

Obviously he isn't going to let you take the draft and not give him the car because then you've got the cash and the car...how does he know you're not going to do a runner with it?

The only thing to remember is don't lose it...It can't be stopped, so losing it would be like losing a wallet full of money. Put it in your bank asap.

Ignore the scaremongers. Bank Draft = guaranteed cash.

yes a bankers draft is a good as money but if he's got the money to get a bankers draft why can't he just pay by cash? i would be a bit careful if i was you.

i've heard that there has been a scame where someone from another country offers to buy your car by cheque, you cash the cheque and the funds show in your account but as it's a foriegn cheque it doesn't clear properly for 7 days so the bank bounce it so your then left without a car and no money.

A genuine bankers draft is as good as cash. WOULD YOU BE ABLE TO TELL IF IT WAS GENUINE? The least you can do is to contact the issuing bank and check that they issued it, and to who. If it's not bank hours then remember it's just a bit of paper and you should keep possession of the car until you have checked or the money is in your account

Apparently there are some dodgy bankers drafts doing the rounds from Western Union - don't accept one of these. Apart from that as above - wait for the funds to be in your account before you part with the car.

Yes do not release the car until the funds are actually in your account, or you can phone the issuing bank and find out if the draft will be honoured.
or demand cash instead of a bankers draft.
