planning to buy a new SUV.i need some suggestions.

Hyundai Teracan is a good SUV, never the best. Its no longer produced. This SUV is based on the 2nd generation Mitsubishi Pajero (this suv is still available in India) platform. Even when it was produced the terra wasn't the best. It had a punchier crdi engine than the pajero and more luxurious interiors. When it came to off roading the Pajero 2.8 was better. Now the terra isn't produced.
The best SUV in terms of off road ability is the Land Rover Range Rover (available in Mumbai as an import for about 75 lacs).
Mitsubishi Montero (38 lacs) is also very good as an off roader.
Anyways the Terra wasn't and isn't the best SUV in India.

The Terracan is a proper off road vehicle (despite the statements of those who don't know better) and can handle off road driving though Hyundai are leaving the off road vehicle market so they aren't going to be making new ones (i.e. the ones that are left in your country will be all you can get).
From what I hear it'll handle off road driving pretty well for the price though if you never go off road don't buy an SUV.

Suvs designed for the city roads do not have what it takes to be a real suv - Hyundai, Honda, Ford, Cheverolet, Grand Vitara (indian models) fall in this category. Infact several of them do not have a proper chassis.
If you want a real good one, go for (in the same order) -
Mitshubishi - Montero
Toyota - landcruiser/ Prado
Nissan - xtrail
Mitshubishi - Pajero
Mahindra - Scorpio (Better to wait for the 2.2 - eagle version)
Tata - Safari (Better to wait for the multijet engine version)
