you should never give any money for a car unless you have the clear title in your hands. If he will not pay off the loan the bank will not give you a lien release...unless you pay it off. Or you will have to sue him and spend even more to fix your mess,

Take your payment record Canceled check or bill of sale to the bank in question. Show them that you paid for the car. Then ask them to release the title if they do not and get any paper work you can from the bank, when he cashed your check. Your only recourse is Lawyer up. Now you know the bank owns the car not the guy who had been driving around in it. So next used car purchase pay off the bank loan one Check and the dollar difference another check to the car owner. Or get a couple big guys in dark suits to take him to his bank to settle this matter.

Where is he??? The stupid thing is if the bank finds the car they will repo tow truck and you do not have a car... Your screwed... Start by getting the forms from the court to have a suit in Small Claims Court...
Court TV is always on.. Judge Judy-- Judge Joe Brown and Judge Marilyn...
No one should be driving the car -- no title-- no registratoin and No plates..for this car... Probably going thru divorce or bankruptcy...
Hope you have a receipt or a check for the cost of the car???...

If his car wasn't paid for, he didn't own it, the bank did. He had no right to sell it to anyone without the permission of the owner, the bank. If you gave him money without a title knowing vehicles are sold by title, there is little you can do.

Never give money until you have a clear title for the vehicle you are buying in your hand when buying from a private party.

Basically this is a civil agreement so the police cannot help. Sometimes if you contact them they will speak with the other party as a courtesty to you.
If you have any type of receipt or paperwork, that will help if you need to go to court.
Your best bet is to contact this person and tell them to return your money. If it was a check, stop payment.
Never buy a used vehicle that does not have a clear title.

BTW, you probable won't get a methods via going to the dmv, by using fact the motor vehicle will nevertheless be titled to the owner, no longer the dealership you acquire from, and that they'll purely refer you back to the broker.

You lose. You will not get the car and you will not get your money back either. He has probably sold this car many times to people who are willing to give him money up front. As a test, have someone else contact him and offer to buy the car and see what he says. You may find he will sell the car to as many people who will give him money. Of course, none of them will ever get the car.
