My daughter starts to drive soon - my car is in too high an insurance bracket and too powerful for her to learn on. I would like to buy another family car for her to learn on that is cheap to buy, low insurance bracket, cheap to run and safe - any advice?

Here's a situation I was in recently and I've already made up my mind, but wanted to see what you would decide. I've been wanting to fix up a car for years... I had 3 options...

Option 1: 79 Chevy Caprice sedan... It has been in the family since new and was my first car. She needs some minor to major TLC (in 5/10 condition) and isn't worth much, but has centimental value through the roof.

Option 2: 73 Ford LTD (sedan)... This is the typical old lady car. Has 70,000+/- miles and has minor wear and tear... In 9/10 condition. Wouldn't take much to get her going, though she's not worth a lot...

Option 3: 52 Ford Coupe: I've been in love with this car since I first laid eyes on it 4 years ago. Hasn't moved in 9 years. She needs major TLC, but has a nice body. A 2/10 car. Could be worth a chunk of change when finished... a project

Even though I've made up my mind, the other 2 aren't going anywhere anytime soon, so I plan on getting them later.

Which would you choose?

I know this question has been asked a million times but I have always bought a car/financed and I feel like I always get burned. Cars depreciate so quickly unless you have a Toyota or Honda.

It makes me sick to think I owe $2000+ more than the car is worth and soon it will have 100,000 miles.

I only drive 12,000/yr and am planning on leasing a vehicle for 15,000 just to be safe. Please someone tell me why buying will be a better choice because I am set to begin a lease soon.
