I live in Indiana and am wanting to purchase a police that is at auction. But I dont know were they auction them at...and I dont know if I have to be a Dealer or not....and if I have to be a dealer to buy from an auction how do I become a dealer...etc etc. I know this is a sad question for a cop to be asking.... Me and my wife have 1 vechile and 6 kids I work another job also and have to have her take me to work to it.... so I am looking for a SUPER CHEAP car.

Where I live they have a county/city auction once a year. Info on it is available at the courthouse (also where the auction is held) You can bid on all kinds of stuff there. I would contact the courthouse and ask for the date and location of the public auction. You do not have to be a dealer. A friend bought a captains car just this year. Good luck. Most of them are rather well maintained too. Just hard miles and a little loose in the suspension. Biggest prob is transmissions.

Pick up your telephone and call the police department who's vehicle you interested in. Ask them when and where they auction off their surplus/decommissioned patrol cars. It's not a secret, they will tell you. You will get much better information doing that then by asking a bunch of strangers.
