Hi, I recently purchased a used honda civic 94. Whenever the car warms up, I can smell oil burning from the vents. (if the vent is on fresh air). First, I thought maybe I have an oil leak from the valve cover or head gasket. However, I took the car to a shop, and they told me that all the gaskets are fine. They said my rack/steering is leaking fluid, and that is causing the oil burning smell. Does that make sense? Should I take the car somewhere else to check again? Thanks!

I need to buy a replacement tire for my front left wheel. The other 3 tires are Kuhmo 225/40zr18. Is it okay to get the replacement tire a different brand (cuz they want $200 for 1 kuhmo!). Will it damage or ruin my other tires, alignment, suspension, driving, et. etc. etc. by a lot a little?

I was very polite and professional with that guy with the bad manners who didn't have enough money and said
"Take the fu#king money!" I'm thinking maybe I was a little too soft on him in response. What would you have done? He was a buck and about 60 something cents short and his exact words were "Just take the fu#king money!" somewhat causing a scene. I think this guy might have had some anger issues. I'm thinking maybe I let him off too easy when I said it's ok, I gave him helpful brochure and said for him to have a nice day at the next stop. He finally apologized at the very end and told me had had a very bad day and he felt bad for acting the way he did, but I'm still starting to think that maybe I was a little too nice and helpful in response given his bad attitude from earlier on.

How would you have handled it?
What would you have said and done if you were in my position under the exact same circumstances with the same guy?

On a major highway a driver not paying attention rear ended me and hit me so hard it did structural and mechanical damage and has been deemed unrecoverable. Will I get retail value? What measures should I take so I won't get ripped off.

besides the obvious things like listening to music and reading. I won't have an electrical socket b/c I'm traveling coach. It's a 5.5 hour ride.

also - will it be obvious where to get off, or do you have to walk through multiple cars in order to get off? I definitely don't want to miss my stop.

I'm restoring/modifying a 1985 Honda Shadow VT700C. It was laid down by a previous owner, then left outside for years. I got it running strong (it's WAY faster than most modern cruisers, even at twice the displacement because this lacks a lot of the weight they pack on these days) but visually it's really lacking. In particular the handlebars give it a very dated look, as do the instrument clusters.

I want to replace the bars but my local shops only stock a couple sizes and shapes, and I can find dozens of options online. But I can't figure out what the existing bars are (how do you measure them?) or what size and shape would make sense as a replacement.

I'm looking for best-bang-for-the-buck with the upgrade because I need more money for the big air kit and a few other modifications. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Then i set it in first and went back to R, then it worked....is this normal or do you think there is something wrong with my car? I would appreciated some answers.

About how much trouble is it to change a motor mount on a 1992 Ford Taurus with a 3.0 motor? How much would the mount cost from a junkyard?

I was driving down the freeway, and was in some traffic. So, it was stop and go, and I was off and on my brakes a lot. It felt like the brakes were stuck on, almost like the emergency brake was on. So, I got off of the freeway. Then, I started to see sparks coming out of the brakes, so I pulled over. I got out and looked at the brakes, and they were glowing orange. So, I let it cool down for a while, and tried to get going again. But, the brakes went all the way to the floor, and didn't really work at all. So, I basically have no brakes. I'm wondering if the brakes pads need to be replaced, or what. Please help!!! Thanks :)

Ok, I get it, I'm an idiot.
Here's the situation:
I am stationed in Germany and leaving in 5 months. I drive a $300 hooptie. It got me to work fine and I don't feel like buying a new car when I am leaving soon.

OK, so it's always had a bad leak. Like I have to put two bottle of water in it everyday. No problem, work is only 4 miles away.

Since it leaks so much, I can't afford to put anti-freeze in it. I had it full of water and it froze. How much damage could have been done. Will it still work when it thaws out?

the other day my grandmother noticed my front tires seemed off so i had my dad check them and they were 18 in each front tire when they should be 30. he didn't check the back ones. it's a 2007 toyota yaris and a light never came on telling me to check it. also, i just had my car inspected about 2 weeks ago...isn't that something they check? what causes low tire pressue? i only have about 10,000 miles on my car. i know what i can do to fix it...but what can i do to prevent it? and what are the results if it's not fixed?

At about 40 mph it starts making a noise like rubber flapping on a tire. Checked them all with zero results. What could it be?The noise is pretty loud.

I have a 1999 buick lesabre. It has 100,000 miles on it and it's running fine. I noticed the smell of burning rubber yesterday when I opened my car door to get out. I did some research to find an extremely common problem with the intake manifold being made out of plastic causing it to melt and rack up damages around 800$.
My first question are which years and models have that plastic part? I read something about either 3.8 or 3.6 engines have it and something about K or L???
Please excuse my ignorance I'm trying to learn what these things are.
My other question is if you're aware you have the plastic piece, is it recommended to replace it before it causes problems?
Thanks.

Two small six inch hoses by the rack and pinion, one had a pinhole leak in it. Replaced it, clamp leaked two days later. Replaced the clamp lasted two weeks, now sitting in my parking lot at work in a puddle of steering fluid. Some one told me one of the lines was high pressure and that the fuel line I put in probably was not strong enough. The parts place I bought it from said it would work. Too cold and wet to crawl under there today to see what is going on. Anybody hear about this type of problem before?

The tach doesnt work because its always going to 1000rpms, 8000rpms over and over so i cant get an actual reading. It does this at idle or during acceleration, so the actual rpms have nothing to do with it.

alternator belt snapped off while driving after i replaced the alternator with a new one... ...why is that,

i also noticed the pulley of the new one is wider than the old one by like a few centimeters and the belt was pretty thin, does that matter, it did have grooves in it for the belt..i made sure the tension was the right amount..not too lose or not too tight...but not sure what made it do this......

i bought a new belt...but what should i be doing when putting it in...?
