Go to AUTO ZONE and get it checked for free, then fix the problem, because if you erase the code the light will go off but it will come back on. AUTO ZONE will not erase your code!

this light comes on when a 'sensor' notices a problem
when a mechanic 'reads' the data - which could be a plug in *that activates the read mode* and the light flashes a series of times 4 x 2 x 2 x 3 and repeats 3 times - - -
then they go to their chevy book and 4223 means - you have this problem
this also resets the light - then if you don;t fix the problem - your light comes back on - - - - - - - - - - and you could have another problem - but you think it's 4223
so go get it fixed

Check engine lights don't come on just to be a nuisance. They are to warn you there's something wrong with the car. If you haven't left your gas cap loose or off you better go and get the car scanned so you know whats up!

It all depends on why the light is on. Is it on for a service? or do u have a problem?

the OBD II scanners will tell you what the error is,
they will also let you clear the code after you fix the problem.
here is what I found,
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index=automotive-index&field-keywords=odbii&results-process=default&dispatch=search/ref=pd_sl_ya_tops-1_automotive-index_33809637_1&results-process=default
http://www.google.com/products?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hs=e9f&resnum=0&q=obdii+scanner&um=1&ie=UTF-8
make sure to get one that will let you clear the codes, and most of them will, not sure about the one with 2 buttons.
