I live in MD and work in DE. But last year I worked part of the time in MD and worked 2nd 1/2 of the year in DE....so I have W2s for both states. Now, I know I need to file a MD return and a DE return and file a credit in MD for the DE return. But my real question is regarding the De return. Do I do the return based on my full amt of income like I did the MD return...or can I just fill out the DE return from my DE W2s and claim just the De income thus paying DE taxes on only what I earned in DE?

Help!!!

Last year I began working as a promotional model for a few different companies under an I-9. I have not recieved any forms regarding taxes. I heard that these forms are called 1099s and that I should only recieve one from the companies that paid me more than $600. Is this true?

So I e-filed my taxes today using turbotax. I qualified for a lifetime learning credit, however I made a mistake while filling out the form. I entered the cost of my books in the form, and I learned a few minutes ago that books are not a qualified expense because "the cost of books is not a requirement to attend the institution." That being said, I already qualified for my maximum refund without the cost of books being factored in- so my refund won't change because of that mistake. I don't want to do anything wrong: legally, ethically, or otherwise, what should I do? I'd rather not get into any trouble...

A sister-in-law would like me to help her do her taxes using Turbo Tax. She has very simple taxes (compared to mine) and I think it'll be easy, but I feel funny doing someone else's taxes. No way do i want to be the prepayer on the paperwork.

She has offered to pay me, but I declined. I suspect she might give me a gift card or take me out to dinner instead. Do I have to put my name down on her taxes as the prepayer if I am not technically "paid"?

Thanks!

If anyone is familiar with MA tax information, your input would be appreciated. I've been filing my taxes for the past 4 years so I know how to do it. My husband hasn't, he just started doing them last year, previous years his mom claimed him. Anyhow...we can't use e-file or telefile because he doesn't have a PIN# from the previous year (H&R block doesn't give one I guess). So I'll be helping him file them this year. The only problem is I am very confused. I used several tax calculators and a couple different forms and it says we'll only be getting $419 back. How is that possible when he only made $21,179? Everyone keeps telling us we'll get at least $1,000 back. For some reason it's not working out that way. It seems MA takes out a lot of taxes and you don't get much back. When I was living in CT I made $8,000 and got $250 in return. He's only getting back $200 more and he made more than twice as much!

I know i can just enter everything it asks but what about his re enlistment bonus? is that already included in his w-2? and it asks for 1099 which we dont have at all. Anyway, how long does it take for us to get our money back if done electronically?

Does the 1099 have the same rules as a W-2 that you have to have it at least post dated by the end of January? What can we do to get this as soon as possible? I'd really like to file my taxes but I don't want to get rude or anything how should we handle this?

I worked a few months in MD and changed jobs to a DE job. So I have W2s for both states. I prepared a DE return based only on the income from the DE W2. Then I did my MD return based on all of my income and claimed a credit for the DE tax return. It should be easier next year cause I will only have a DE W2 to file. Does this sound right.
Anyone that has filed a delaware return....by doing it this way I cannot fill out the federal column with the info from my federal return cause that is also based on my full amt of income from both states...not just DE. HELP!

I have done my taxes before so I have basic knowledge. I am trying to do this myself so I can keep from paying a preparer. I need all of this return for bills!
