yes. because that is how our elected representatives decided to do it. it's called PUBLIC education because the public benefits and the entire public pays for it. even people without children benefit from the education of citizens (say the doctor who operates on your cancer was educated in the free public system). It is considered a benefit to society as a whole to have educated citizens, not just a benefit to the family of the children educated. Many countries do not provide public education and poor folks can't afford school. This is tragic because they have very little choice but to continue being poor if they cannot pay for school. Our system gives everyone a better chance to become a cancer-curing doctor.

Yes. Taxes for US public schools are calculated and paid along with our property taxes. For people who rent, the landlord pays the property taxes and passes the cost on to the renter. For some people who send their children to private school or a charter school, they can file for tax credits - this depends on the state you live in, not all states allow it. But for those that do not have children we still must make a contribution to the public school system through our taxes.

Yes they do. Education benefits the community as a whole, not just those with children.

Of course they do. Just the same as non smokers still pay the increasing rates of health insurance. We all contribute to live here.
