If the excess taxes were taken because you had more than one employer, the excess is reported on line 67 of form 1040 (for 2006).

There is an appropriate line on you tax form to enter the overpayment and they count it as a tax credit. It will be used to reduce the taxes you owe or increase your refund. You must have a copy of you w-2 showing this.

If you had one employer you must go back to the employer and seek a refund of the excess. If you had two or more employers you will be credited the excess in your return.
