If you contact the fraud department with the IRS they should also be able to help you - this is a serious felony with the IRS.

Go to your local Social Security office. Inform them that you've worked for a company that is no longer in business and that you need their EIN number. We have the capacity to search for an EIN maybe we can help you. Any capable Service Representative should be able to help you. It would be easy if you worked for them longer than 1 year. If you just worked for them in 2006 then don't bother, we wont have any 2006 information until after the tax filing period is over--at the earliest. If this is your case then your local unemployment office would be a better option since their information is more up to date in most cases. Good luck.

You will have to wait until 2/15 to file a missing W2 complaint with the IRS. They will investigate the matter and either see to it that your employer gets the W2s to you or will assist you in creating a substitute W2 for filing purposes. You can't file a return without the W2 or the IRS approved substitute.

Unfortunately there's no way to speed up the process, you'll have to follow the IRS procedures.

Contact city hall in the city where the business started, and ask for the records for the business. They should have filed a business license for the city, and that license SHOULD have the EIN number.

You can put the amount that they paid you under household wages but if you paid any taxes in you can't get them back by doing that. If any questions contact me below.
