The 1099 came from consulting work I done on the side. It was about $5,000, which was substancially more than I remembered, but it's correct. I would rather just send a check for the percentage tax owed on it, rather than have to deal with the IRS.

I was told by payroll, that it was okay to go ahead and file, just to make sure that who ever files notes that it is wrong, I was going to file online. Can I still file as they stated or do I need to ask for them to get me another w-2? I have the idea they are not going to re-issue them due to the 100's of employees that we have.

I just downloaded a tax return program and have my W2 in hand. I decided to do my return myself and found it to be rather easy. A little too easy I might add. The program asked me a few questions and I typed the answer in accordingly to what is on my W2. Almost everyone that I know hire "professionals" to do their return. I assumed they did this because I thought that doing your return is a complicating process. Well, I just did mine and it was pretty darn easy. What I'd like to know is...is it suppose to be this easy? Am I missing a vital step?

Hello,
How do I file taxes if I dont have a 1099 or w2? I am sure I would qualify for EIC as single mother of 2 making only about 7200 per year? In prelimiary paperwork through HR Block it was determined I would receive a refund?! This doesnt sound right since I havent actually paid taxes. Also, How do I prove my income? Help! Thanks

If on my W-2 The exemptions/allowances states federal:0, and state: 0, do I check the "Yourself" box under the exemptions box? It's confusing because it says, "if someone can claim you as a dependent, do not check 6a"--but if I check the box, I end up with 1 exemption. help!

I donate items through out the year, for a few Organizations I save the slips they leave at the door..

I added up the items i have donated this year using the FMW, I am over the $500 mark (filing Married/jointly and itemizing) . Now does it matter what type of items they are if some are clothes? Can baby & kid items be allowed for this deduction if it was given to a organiztion?

Quite confused and afraid to be red flagged for an audit (even though i have it documented), or should i just adjust the amount to be under the 500 mark ( 840 now) and be safe?

Do i have to put something on the outside of it, or just my return address and the address of the tax place +postage? I read somewhere that you should get a sticker that had your last name and some code on it. I need info on both Federal and MI state. Thanks.

My previous company gave me a starting bonus, and when I left in less than a year, I was forced to repay a portion of the bonus to the company. Can I claim that loss on my taxes, and if so how?

I worked for this company for 6 months in 2005, and left in January of 2006. I have a W-2 from them for the first two weeks of 2006, when I was still an employee - and it does not reflect the money that I repaid the company, which was presumably counted against when I recieved the bonus originally, in 2005...

I claimed 9 on my job all year and I don't have any dependents. My friend told me that it would be ok to do that, and that way I will not be charged federal taxes. Now, I was told by someone else that when I file my income taxes I will owe the IRS. I am a real dummy when it comes to tax stuff. What will happen to me? Please help.

I had a full time job for 9 months, then got a freelance job in which I have to file a 1099 form. Do I have to file a 1040a for my full time, then a 1099 separately for my freelance job? And what about for state taxes? Do I need to file 2 forms for state? I'm confused, please help!

I'm looking at a smaller refund than usual this year. My best friend is expecting a nice refund on his own, though.

I've heard of other people claiming other's kids to get a larger refund.
Is this possible???

Couldn't we get in trouble for even considering this???
