My boyfriend is claiming our 5 month old.. he made $15000 last year and put in about $1100 to federal and we are getting back $4300.. it just depends on how much u put in.. assuming u claim head of household, i entered ur gross income and just put $75 for fed u put in (just a guess) and it gave me an estimate of $764... u can go to H&R Block and get and easy estimate.. mine was accurate, hope this helps..

Your mom is more than a little optimistic.

You wouldn't have any taxable income. The child tax credit can only reduce your taxes to zero, and you're already at zero so you won't get that.

You should get an earned income credit of about $689, plus whatever you had withheld for federal income taxes.

Well I am not a tax person but it determines on how much you made last year. If you made more then 9K and less the 20K then you will get a earned income credit which i think is near 3.5K for your child. But this is just what I can remeber her saying. Go to a tax person and ask it doesnt hurt and the more you get back the more they make on you.

With a gross income of only 2k you are not required to file but you should file because you will qualify for the Earned Income Credit if your child was born in 2006, which means a nice refund for you.
