I just downloaded a tax return program and have my W2 in hand. I decided to do my return myself and found it to be rather easy. A little too easy I might add. The program asked me a few questions and I typed the answer in accordingly to what is on my W2. Almost everyone that I know hire "professionals" to do their return. I assumed they did this because I thought that doing your return is a complicating process. Well, I just did mine and it was pretty darn easy. What I'd like to know is...is it suppose to be this easy? Am I missing a vital step?

Yes, its pretty easy if you don't have a lot of kids, student loans, property income, stocks, etc. Mine just takes about five minutes, I enter head of household, no one can claim me, single parent, amount earned, and then figure out the refund (or amount owed).

If all your income is from a W-2, then yes it's really easy. Even if you had a couple jobs so had a couple W-2's, it's easy. People get psyched by it, or fall for the ads on TV and radio for the tax prep places. so end up spending a lot of money needlessly.

If you have a complicated return, maybe your own business with lots of deductions, then seeing a CPA can be a real good idea.

If you aren't going to itemize anything, I'd say yes, it can be just that easy. Most tax return programs have a self-checking process that makes sure you haven't missed anything vital. Some will require you to print/sign and mail in the actual form, even thou they allow you to send them electronically.

If someone claims you as a depending on their go back, you're required to report your own go back in case your earnings from self employment is $400 or extra or your earnings from wages from a job is $5,seven hundred or extra. no matter when you're not to any extent further required to report, in case you had a job and federal earnings tax develop into withheld you may pick to report to have that withholding refunded to you.

Yes, it can be that easy! I think people are just afraid of taxes in general so they think they have to hire a professional.

If all you got is a W-2 with no house or other deductions should take 5 minutes.

Yeah, it's really that easy for most taxpayers!

The only thing you forgot was to get all worried and twisted around the axle about it!

Pat yourself on the back for saving yourself $100 or so of needless expense.
