I live in MD and work in DE. But last year I worked part of the time in MD and worked 2nd 1/2 of the year in DE....so I have W2s for both states. Now, I know I need to file a MD return and a DE return and file a credit in MD for the DE return. But my real question is regarding the De return. Do I do the return based on my full amt of income like I did the MD return...or can I just fill out the DE return from my DE W2s and claim just the De income thus paying DE taxes on only what I earned in DE?

Help!!!

since you live in MD, all wages are taxed there since it is your home state.

as far as DE goes, just prepare the return based on your DE W-2; just claim the DE income and DE tax withheld; thus reporting only what you earned in DE

I don't know your tax laws but I would imagine your tax booklet would tell you.

In Canada, you file taxes based on your province of residency on Dec 31. It doesn't matter where you earned the money, you pay all taxes on all income based on residency
