I asked the officer and she would not give me any information. She wanted to speak with the owner and made it sound like a life and death situation. We called the IRS office and there is nothing on our account that would warrant such a visit. Anyone have any ideas? We won't find out anything until next week but I am extremely curious.

Does Per Deim (money for gas and food or expenses) given to the employee be reported on your taxes. If so does it affect you meaning, will you be charged taxes on it or is it tax free.

My sister told my mother that a credit card company took her tax refund from her checking account where it had been direct depostied for an unpaid bill. Causing her account to be overdrawn. Can they do that or is she just trying to get money from my mom? She said she didnt give them permission they just took it.

I need to sell my home so that I can take a job out-of-state. I have been in the home for 3 years, but it looks like I will take a $30,000 hit. Is this tax deductible as a business expense?

Here's the deal. My son's mother is on disability and does not work or produce an income. Her boyfriend lives with her and he does work. She told me that he claimed my son on his tax return for 2006. All the info I can find at the IRS website says that since 2005, a person cannot claim a child that is not their own, or you have to be a blood relative, which he is not. My question is, how in the world could someone legally claim a child that is not their own? If they filed joinly would that make a difference. This doesn't seem right, but apparently whoever did their taxes for them let them do it. Please help!

I put down 10k on a new construction condo. Before we could close the place flooded and we decided to back out. The builder would only give us back 5k or half the deposit. Is there any way to claim the other 5k I lost when I do my taxes?

1. i have an undergraduate debt, that i began to pay off for a year with a part time job from summer 2005-summer 2006. then i entered med school (fall 2006), so those payments are currently in deferment. right now, i'm living completely off a large student loan, and will continue to do so for the next 3 years. what i'm asking is, in addition to my W-2 for the 2006-2007 year, what else do i need to file my taxes? something that shows my undergrad loans? my current loans? thanks.

Filing taxes every year is something we all HAVE to do, regardless of income. So, why does it cost some people so much to have them filed? The prices are getting outrageous..
