Who wants you to get a notarized statement for the release? If you already signed the check, how is it you don't know how much you are getting? Please be clearer. Don't understand what you are asking.

Follow up: Do not agree to anything until you have the final figures. Once you sign the check you may never see anything. I would contact the Bar Association (they regulate lawyers) and tell them what is going on. This guy sounds real shady.

sounds like he is strong arming you. Hes the BIG lawyer and you are little guy so sign the check. OR You demand he figure his expenses (which he has to do anyway) and fee (which is jacked up anyhow) and let you know what the deal is.
"he will try to get more money jostling the bills" This worries me - whos he getting more money for. And why can't he or someone in his office take care of the notorised release. ????? What the heck do lawyers do for their money. Your too far in now cause most lawyers contract you into giving them 30-40% even if you go to another lawyer, even if its because they are a bad lawyer, they are smart enough to cover their rear.

Don't sign unless it's ironed out first, exactly as you agree. Your lawyer is just trying to wrap it up and be done.

Can you rephrase this with a little more detail? I'm not sure what you are asking.
