I received a 1099-B form detailing the proceeds I received when I got rid of my Sharebuilder stocks. However, I can find nothing in the 1040 instructions for where to report this income on lines 7-22 in the Income section of a tax return.

I'm married since 2005. Wife only worked 5 months in 2006 and made $12k and spent 3 months abroad. I made $40K. We live together and own a home. No kids.

Any advice would be much appreciated. TY!

I am right below the maximum cut-off point for the earned income credit. I am wondering if I do freelance work and up my income by say, 3,000, am I just wasting my time because I will no longer qualify for that credit? In other words, am I just working next year's refund away?

I am a single mom with two dependents.

I don’t understand how to fill out a w-4 form. I’m married, but have been putting single on my w-4 form. What is the difference between claiming 0 & 1? I heard that 0 will allow you a larger refund at the end of the year but takes more taxes out of your check & putting a 1 will result in paying back the IRS but less tax taken out. Also, if taxes get taken out of our checks, why is it that sometimes we have to still pay back during income tax time? If I am married, can I still claim single on my w-4? If so, how many allowances should my husband put on his and what about mine? We have no kids. I also have a 2nd job so I’m not sure how I would include that or fill that one out as well. Is it true that if my husband puts 1 allowance on his, I can’t? How does filling out a W-4 as married affect our checks or w-2/refund at the end of the year? I just double-checked and my husband & I both claim 1 on our Federal & State for 2006 through now. Does that mean that when it comes for filing incom

Unfortunately my father past away a few months ago. Been doing deep cleaning lately and I'm wondering if have any reason to keep his very old tax return documents. I'll keep the most recent but is that all I should keep? He doesn't owe anything or anything like that, so I want to get rid of it. Let me know if I'm not making a huge mistake :)

I'm looking to file my 2005 taxes. From what I've been told, it can't be done electronically.Does anyone know 'how' exactly I'd go about doing this? What forms I'd request and what not? Also, is this something I can do myself? I'd rather not go through H&R Block or anything/anyone like that... Is there a form on the IRS website I can print out..? I looked but couldn't seem to find any. Thanks guys.

My taxes were sent via mail on Feb 8th and I opted for direct deposit. My irs.gov link to where's my refund said I wouldn't get the money until Mar. 27th. How many of you have gotten the wrong date from the IRS and received the direct deposit much sooner?

In the beginning of every April, year after year, after year, mass media ie., television, radio, newspapers all talk about the tax filing deadlines and all the headaches associated
with them. Dont forget to sign your names, dont forget to sign your check, dont forget to put a stamp on the envelope, etc.

My question is: Of those people who use this forum to ask your tax questions, and after receiving expert answers from knowledgable people, will you ask the same question year after year, or will you remember what you did incorrectly and apply it to 2007 and
future years?

I do bookkeeping for a small business.
Since I am no ownership interest, I work as a "contract employee" and make myself a check monthly for my services.
I do not withhold taxes and settle up at the end of the year since I have other sources of income.
Do I need to make myself a Form 1099 since I do the books, write my own check, and know what I made last year.

Every year the assessors office "tax" equipment and supplies purchased by a company. What is the tax for? Where is it used? How it is differentiated with sales tax? Why pay this kind of tax when we already paid sales tax when we purchased an item?
