It should not take so long. I'd call your preparer up and find out what is taking so long. I have a feeling they put you on the back burner because you are not sitting right there with them.

If it's your personal return, not tied in with a fairly complex business, I'd think that even in this very busy time you'd have had it back in a week or so. Did you ask when you dropped it off?

The preparer is not permitted to efile your return without your signature.

Call them and ask. Maybe it's ready and they just haven't contacted you yet.

Once the IRS receives your return it can take anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks depending on how you filed.

You need to contact the preparer to find out if they submitted your return and gotten confirmation from the IRS that it was accepted.
