April 17, 2007 for federal income tax for 2006. Many states will have the same deadline, but some might have it on April 16 or even April 15, so you'll need to check with your state department of revenue on that.

truly, in case you owe taxes, the finest day you could report is "not at all". Or always. some non-existent date a recommendations interior the destiny. notwithstanding, the late-filing consequences are truly stiff. once you've a refund coming, like some different person said, in case you do not report by 3 years after the unique due date of the go back, you lose it. opposite to what what some different person has said the following, there is not any problem, penalty, or any unfavorable results of any variety to filing after April fifteenth. the biggest element is that your taxes were paid by April fifteenth. the second one element is that you report an extension by April fifteenth. If a refund is coming your route, the extension (or lack thereof) isn't a element in getting your refund. filing the extension remains the sensible portion of do.

You must file your 2006 tax return by April 17th, 2007, unless you file Form 4868 for an extension of time to file until October 15th, 2007. The extension must be filed by 4/17/07.
Note that if you file for an extension, its an extension of time only. If you owe tax, it is to be paid in by 4/17/07.

It's April 17th this year, because of a District of Columbia holiday (April 15 is a Sunday, and DC Emancipation Day is April 16).
