If I received a 1099 Form from an employer, does that mean that I would have to pay to the IRS? If so, how do I find out how to figure how much I would have to pay?

I started a new job and after 3 days I realized that the owner of this business wasn't somebody who I wanted to be associated with...at all. So I quit.

I talked with the guy about getting paid for the 3 days I worked and he tried to tell me I only worked 2 days. Because of this, and several other reasons, I think that he is going to try to rip me off somehow when I get paid on the 15th of June. If he pays me for the 3 days I worked I should be getting $400, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if he tries to write me a check for $300 or so and say the rest went to taxes (but not report it or send it in to the government).

So my question is: Is there a law that states that an employer can't start taking out money for taxes until the employee makes a certain amount? I remember hearing something about this, but I'm not sure if it is true. What I heard was that employers can't start taking taxes out until the employee makes his first $500 with the company. Is this true? Resources?

Thanks!

This is a math problem..it does make sense - I just can't figure out how to solve the problem. It was one of the questions on a test given to me by the Dept. of Revenue which, of course, I missed. Please, only serious replies. The last answer I received told me the question didn't make sense so i have rephrased it.

I think someone is commiting tax fraud and a child support scam. He owns his own construction company and is claiming he is goingunder financially. On the contrary, his company was able to build him his personal 4 bdroom home, purchase a 2007 dodge heavy duty deisel truck when his last truck was only an 05 running fine, paid $10,000 for a trip to Mexico from company funds, and paid $25,000 of his companies money for criminal lawyers for a child molest case against him. How do I prove his company is being used as his personal piggy bank and that its actually turning over a profit and not in debt. It may be in debt but ony because he spends it. any suggestions?

I have a traditional 401k. I know that the contributions and growth are deferred until I retire. When I do start to pull out money, are all the capital gains taxes due? Do I have to keep track of all the buys/sells I've made?

Hi Guys/Gals,

My partner wants to bid on an item in the states on Ebay, however it mentions 6% sales tax to be added. Do we have to pay this, or is this just something buyers in the US would pay? A bit of googling seems to suggest this but want to confirm.

Can anyone help please.

After filing taxes jointly for 2006 and expecting a refund in excess of $6,000, the IRS notified me and my wife they were taking our ENTIRE refund due to my wife being in default of her student loan. I immediately filed the Injured Spouse Allocation Form (Form 8379) and since I make most of the money in our household ($60,000 anually compared to my wife's $30,000), my accountant claimed our entire itemized deductions of just over $25,000 in my name. I had about $9,700 in taxes withheld from my salary and my wife had about $4,000 withheld. Does anyone have any idea/experience to know HOW MUCH of a refund I can expect and HOW LONG the process takes once the Injured Spouse form is filed? I would greatly appeciate any insight into this.
