This is a math problem..it does make sense - I just can't figure out how to solve the problem. It was one of the questions on a test given to me by the Dept. of Revenue which, of course, I missed. Please, only serious replies. The last answer I received told me the question didn't make sense so i have rephrased it.

X = 3500000 / 106.5

While the math from a couple of posters is correct, the question is defective. The sales price of a vehicle is ALWAYS before the tax is added on.

divide sales + tax price by $1.065

the answer is the sales price -

if item plus tax is $10.65 - then divide 1.065

answer is $10 - for original price

if the truck price is $35,000
to figure truck plus tax in one hit - -

multiply by 1.065

to find it out for a separate line item - tax only
multiply by .065
