Tony Bliar wants to raise taxes to solve global warming. Can somebody please explain how taxing me even more is going to cure global warming? Do I still need to get to work? Yes. Do I still want to travel? Yes.

How will Blair get on holiday? Fly, of course. One rule for him, another rule for the rest of us.

So how about public transport? He wants us to use it. What public transport? Outside of big cities the bus services are terrible. The railway has been starved of cash for years and meddled about so much by Blair and his cronies that nobody knows what is going on any more.

Grrrr!

I just sold my stock A for a long-term loss of $50K.

I then sold my stock B for a long-term gain of $50K.

Can I then immediately buy back stock B (same number of shares) and still offset the two gain/loss to not pay tax on B's 50K capital gain? If yes, wouldn't this be an always-win situation for me: not having to pay tax on B's 50K and now own the same number of B's shares at a higher cost-basis?

My parents are very old and I plan to have them move into my house and help pay for some of their expenses for medication etc.

1)can I put them under my health insurance plan for my employer and how does that work if I wanted to do that?

2)can I file them as my dependents even though they are my parents for tax deduction purposes? Thank you.

in responce to the proposed green taxes i think it woul make much more sence to tax the rest of europe instead. even by making sure that everyone pays the same price for petrol in eu would make a difference! why are we the only country to pay high road tax, and petrol prices and why is itr that we are looking to have to pay more to use the roads!

Me and my husband got married in April of 2006. Before I got marrie dI was filing single with myself as a dependent, and my husband was filing single with no dependents. Netiher of us have changed our Info on our W-4's though our work to say "Married". I'm wondering, since I haven't changed it yet, would it be best that me and my husband change our W-4's to "Marrried" but file a seperate return, and then wait till next year to file "Married filing jointly". Can I do that or not? I really appreciate the help!

OK I am clueless here. I have an escrow account with $3900 in it. The bank, says online, that in 12/2006 the next estimated scheduled county tax payment is $532.98 (seems low) . It also says the next estimated scheduled school tax payment is $334.02 (seems low) on 12/06.

I grasp the insurance part, but the taxes I dont get. Why are they so low? The Appraisal District website for my county shows estimated taxes at... City $1,210.27, School $2,347.94, County $292.46, College $108.20, and Hospital $339.30...for me.

So what do I owe? Do I have enough in there? Will the bank automaticaly pay the taxes? Why are the College, Hospital, and City taxes not showing up as getting ready to be paid on 12/2006?

I also plan on putting another $512 in the escrow account before 12/2006, bringing it to $4412.

I am a corporate entity. I hold a contest for which there is a nominal entrance fee. I want to use aggregate amount of entrance fees to award to a winner, based on some judging criteria. Do I have to pay taxes on the amount collected? Or does awarding the money to the contest winner count as a deductible expense?
