VERY CAREFUL HERE! All of the other answers could lead you into big trouble! 1. Either of you can claim the child for the purposes of a deduction. 2. Only one of you can claim the child for the deduction AND the status of Head of household. 3. Absolutely, by law, only the individual with the higher income in the household can claim the EIC! The IRS is spending more time and money every year investigating EIC fraud. Fraudulent EIC claims cost the taxpayers over 5,000,000 (yes, that's SIX zeros) annually.

It would depend. If you have low income and claim a child, you might get an earned-income-credit or something like that. If that doesn't work, have him try and see if he gets more back-- since he paid more to begin with.

You can run your tax information online at turbotax.com-- you get all the way to the end and see what your return is befor eyou have to commit to using them-- and they're very user-friendly.

Probably he would, by filing as Head of Household. If you are in a low income bracket, you will probably get all of your taxes back anyway.

the lower paid would make more as far as the child credit goes... the less you make the more you get for kids... check into it though!!
