I know of income tax, corporation tax, council tax, value added tax, excise tax, import tax, road tax, airport tax, stamp duty and planning fees. Are there others, and what are they?

Hello,

I'm pretty sure that you have got most of them apart from National Insurance Contributions, which are linked with your state pension.

This is one of the problems with the state pension: by the time today's young people reach retirement, there will not be enough tax payers to cover all of the governments expenditure on state pensions (especially with advances in medicine). If the state pension is still around, then the amount received will be significantly less than it is today; and it's already low!

So this is a message to everyone:
Do not rely on the state pension to cover all your expenses during retirement!

They are now thinking on implementing new 'green' taxes to help the environment and stop global warming. This may mean that the price of airplane tickets rises, and the cost of running a motor vechile increasing.

The best place to find out about taxes is HM Revenue and Customs, they collect the bulk of tax revenue. The address to the HM Revenue and Customs website is:

Thanks

You missed out National Insurance Contributions, which is a pretty big one, as well as Capital Gains Tax and Inheritance Tax. There is Landfill Tax, of course (or did that get abolished? I've been out of the UK for five years). That is a tax which most people don't get to know about.

I suppose fuel, ciggies and booze are covered by excise tax.

Good question. I'm interested to see what others can come up with.
