I HATE tax season, because I never know what to claim! I guess I should invest in a class, but anyway. I have a two two fold question:

1. I received my 1098-T from my school. The only lines on the form that have amounts are number 2 "Amounts billed for qualified tuition and related expenses" and number 5 "Scholarships or grants". Can I claim this? My student loans are deferred. I know that if I am able to claim, then it would be a Lifetime Learning Credit, since I'm completing a 4 year degree and I'm currently in my last year.

2. Can I also claim the interest that I paid on my auto loan or just the sales tax that was paid when I purchased it back in May?

Thanks for helping me out...totally clueless!!! :)

This check came from a Corporation and I am a shareholder. I was not aware of the suit, or that I had been a party to it. I don't understand how it can be treated as a dividend when no product or services were sold that earned this money.

Do they just remove that deduction and reconfigure your totals or do you have to pay a penalty for not being able to support your deduction?

There have been like 5 jobs between my husband and me and we moved across country. My husband briefly worked as an independent contracter as well. I think we should have our taxes done by professionals; He wants to do them online. I am afraid we're going to mess up on something, and it is my LAST want to be on the crap list with the IRS. What would you do? I'm assuming our tax return is going to be pretty complicated. It's just the two of us, no kids, no house, and we file married filing jointly, but with all the jobs and the moving expenses (inclusive of a storage unit) I can't help thinking we really should let our taxes be done by someone who really knows what they are doing.

Hi, I don't know if I need to claim myself on my 1040ez. I made $6645 last year and $408 was taken out for taxes. Im 17, my mom claimed me as a dependant. On question #5 do I check any of the boxes (you or spouse) or do I leave it blank and put $8450 in the space. I'm confused with what to do.
Thanks

So that you can put the money that would normally be withheld from your paycheck for taxes into a interest bearing account and then you can pay your taxes at the end of the tax year? Isn't letting the Gov't withhold money from your paycheck pretty much giving them an interest free loan (i.e. though you're getting a refund, you didn't have access to that money for most of the year)?

I am trying to understand different scenarios for IRA withdrawal.
1. What would be tax amount if I withdraw from IRA $10k after the age of 60 assuming I do not have any other income?
2. In above case, what would be the amount I can withdraw without having to pay any tax?
3. Would the case also be same if I was not a resident of USA at the time of withdrawal?

Thanks in advance

I need to know if I if this is right, because I or anyone I talk to say it is not, but I don't know for sure. Is it right, if you are NOT self-employed, for them to take employer taxes out on you every week? I pay my taxes, yet they are also charging me 88.00 every 2 weeks for employer taxes. Shouldn't the employer pay their own taxes? I added it up, and it equaled up to$176.92 a month, which is$ 2,123.04 a year, I tried to ask them about it on the phone, and they make it to where you can't understand what they are sayin, and they said they would call me back, and never did. I just need to know, if it is right for the employee to be getting employer taxes withheld from their check? Please help me out here, and if I am not souposed to be paying this, who do I contact to help me resolve this, because personally, I don't think this is fair. Any help will be greatly appreciated......
