Hi, I don't know if I need to claim myself on my 1040ez. I made $6645 last year and $408 was taken out for taxes. Im 17, my mom claimed me as a dependant. On question #5 do I check any of the boxes (you or spouse) or do I leave it blank and put $8450 in the space. I'm confused with what to do.
Thanks

You would check the box for single and someone is claiming you.
You would put $5,150.00 in box 5

Since your mom can still claim you, yes, you check the "YOU" box on line 5. Don't put 8450 in the space - use the worksheet on the back. You should end up with 5150 in the box. You'll have taxable income of 1495, tax of $149, and a refund of $259.

The way I read it, the $8450 is for people who are not claimed as a dependent on someones else's return. You should check the box for "You" and use the worksheet on the back to figure out what to put on Line 5. Based on your salary it looks like it will be $5150.

You can't claim yourself b/c your mom claimed you. You can't take the full standard deduction, you will get a limited deduction. I don't know what question 5 is. You will have to file because you made too much money in 2006. Don't forget any interest you may have earned from savings accounts.
