For almost everything, yes. You don't send it in with your return, but could be asked for it if you are audited.

This year yet, you can claim small amounts without proof - like a few bucks tossed into the Salvation Army Kettles or something like that. For tax year 2007, rules for having receipts for charitable deductions are really being tightened down.

Yes, if you do not want to be audited. That means they will check your bank account ane every transaction you made at ask for a receipt. Do yourself a favor do not cheat on the tax thing it will get you in deep trouble, if not now eventually. I had the same thing and had to pay back 2600 bucks, not worth it, take care Heather

Yes can you imagine if you did not? Everyone would be claiming all kinds of stuff it would be out of control.
