What is the difference between a hard pack and a soft pack of cigarettes? What are the pros and cons of the two different type of cigarette packaging? What is more preferred and why?

Maybe I'm not thinking this through right, but it seems that if I dropped my dependents on my W-4 so that my employer takes out the minimum amount of taxes, I could put that money away (I'm a good saver) and earn interest on it. Then I would wait until April 15th to pay the IRS what I owe. What do you think?

I allowed his father to claim him on his taxes the four years he lived with me and his father is behind in child support for all three children. This will be the last year I can file him because his father has modified the custody order since he is almost 13 and he can decide to live where he wants. I have always provided the children's insurance.

Think about it: the reason you get a refund is because the government took too much of your money way from you. You gave the government an interest-free loan. If you'd had that money up-front you could have been earning interest on it.

I'm helping someone do their taxes and he's filing head of household and one of his dependents owe back child support payments. Would this effect their tax refund? Would he be better off leaving him off his tax return?

My friend's children do not live with me. She does not claim taxes because she doesn't work. She recieves state assistance. Whenever her children need school clothes or she is running out of food. I provide the money for whatever they need that is above and beyond the assistance she recieves. She said that I should claim her kids on my taxes because I provide whatever extra needed support that she can't. I know I am not able to claim them on my taxes because they are not my children. However, is there anything I can claim for the support I supply to these children?

Our return was accepted and was in processing until a week before the 26th, when I had expected it to be direct deposited. I checked online and for some reason, my refund was shown to be mailed on the 2nd, instead of being direct deposited on the 26th. I called the IRS and they said it was because I had 0 tax liability and our refund was large. Well, I am a full-time college student, we have 3 dependents, and paid over $12,000 in interest on our house this year...not to mention other deductions, so we actually got back $200 more than we paid in. Not uncommon since I know people who get a couple of thousand in earned income credit over what they pay in.

Anyways, so they said they couldn't honor our direct deposit and that they would mail our check instead. The website does say now that the check has been mailed, but this all seems so weird to me. I've never heard of them declining a direct deposit because of a large refund and 0 tax liability. Has this happened to anyone else?

I posted a question last week because I had filed my taxes and then received a small, but forgotten W2.

My return was accepted and scheduled to be deposited on Fri...I checked the status through the online system and it said I should receive my refund by 2/13/07. This was as late as this afternoon.

I checked the status again now and no information is available. The page said to mention code 8002, but customer service wasn't helpful when I called and wouldn't check anything because it hasn't been 3 weeks.

Can someone please help me...this was an honest mistake and I needed the refund money desperately.

My dear friend's 21 year old daughter died on January 5. Can she, the mother file the daughters taxes? If so, how does she go about doing that? The daughter was not married at the time of her death so being single the next living relative is her mother. She did receive the daughters W-2's but now what? Thank you for your responses in advice from not only me but her mother.

I share my child with my soon-to-be ex husband who doesn't live with me anymore. I live with just my baby and 2 or 3 days out of the week, he stays with his dad. But Dad says he wants to claim our son instead of me because it would make more of an impact on him, like the difference of a couple thousand dollars, whereas I will probably get everything back because I didn't make enough last year to get taxed. He pays some child support. Anyway, I don't know how many to claim on my W2, or is that w4? See, I have no idea what I'm even talking about. It says claim 1 if you're head of your household, 1 if you have a kid, 1 for yourself, and something else that applies to me too I think...anyone know what I should do?
