On one tax question, it asks if someone can claim me as a dependent... How do I know if i can be claim as a dependent. I'm 18 years old and live with my mother. But she isn't going to filing any taxes this year.

So am I my mom's dependent still?

Please help, I need my tax information asap so I can apply for grants. Thank you so much for your time.

You are only your mother's dependent if she provided at least half of your support. If you are filing and she is not, you probably provided more than half of your own support. If you provided more that half of your mother' support, you may be able to claim HER as YOUR dependent. See page 19 of the 1040 instructions for more details.

you're not to any extent further a depending in case you grant a minimum of one/2 of your own help. in case you grant a minimum of one/2 of your mom help, she will be your depending for tax applications. See web page 19 of the 1040 practise for data.

As long as your mother doesn't have to file a return due to her income you don't need to check that box.
