when filing with turbotax there is a question when claiming the educational tax credits asking how much educational assistance i recieved to pay for college. since the money from the gi bill is sent to me and not to the college like most other kinds of financial assistance, can i leave that section blank and still claim the credit?

the problem is when i put in the money i recieved from the gi bill, then my qualifying tuition is reduced to zero because it is less. So basically what i am asking is whether or not the gi bill legally counts as education assistance when it comes to this situation.

please only give answers if you have experienced this situation before or if you have an accurate answer to the question
thanks

The questions are: Can I amend this years taxes next year or do I have to do it now. And can I still amend my return even though I already spent it, or do I have to find a way to put the same amount I got back into my bank account BEFORE I amend it? (I did my taxes on turbo tax and accidentally put in a w-2 from 2005 instead of 2006 and the IRS accepted it.)

I had always thought they had to be mailed out by the 31 of January. My husband worked briefly through a temporary service. They still hadn't sent it to us so we called and they said they weren't going to mail it, we had to come pick it up from them. Is that legal? Do you know where I can find this information?

I looked at a web site that had a list of employers and you could check to see if they sent my w2 forms out for 2006

okay this is the deal. I collected unemployment for about 6 months got that w2 form. then i started working at a retail store only making 7 an hr working 6 hrs a day 6 days a week and it only shows 100$ were taking from fed taxes. and at the same time i worked part time at target making 8 $ an hr workig 15 hrs a week for a little over a month in a half and on that w2 form it shows only .07 wee taking out from fed and I think 0 taking from state on both target and the other retail job. then in sep I quit both jobs and started working at mu current job making 10 $ working 40 hrs a week and on that w2 form it has 0 tooken from fed and state.why? I'm married but only claiming yself and I have a daughter my husband been in jail for the past year so were not exactly together. and also at my current job they had me claiming 5 on my w2 form which was a mistake. So my question is will I owe back taxes? I usually get a pretty good refund back like 2800. pleaase help. sorry so long..

I just spoke with an IRS rep and asked her if I should expect my refund on the 9th. She said that I should not expect my refund before the end of this month. How can they do this....I have gotten so many different answers from these people....is anyone at the IRS not on the same page?? The first time I called on 1/31 I was told if there weren't any problems to expect it on the 9th that there was a glitch in the system. The 2nd time I called I was told that there wasn't a glitch that 70,000 returns were pulled for review and was also told the 9th. Today I called to ask them if it was the 9th and she told me that it could be anywhere from the 9th to the end of this month if everything checked out. I then asked her why people were told 1/26 and for days the website said it was direct deposited when in fact it wasn't. All she could tell me was that it's an automated system and it's not reliable at all.
I am so frustrated!!!

And what is deductible? Gas, mileage, hotel, truck rental, supplies, food, airfare? I moved due to job relocation, however my employer did not help with the move. I'd like to claim the expenses on my taxes.

I own an insurance agency. I have a seperate checking account for insurance premium funds. When we collect a insurance premium payment from a customer, the funds are deposited into this account and then we send our agency check to the insurance company. How are these funds treated on form 1120S?

My governor (PA) proposed 1% state sales tax increase in order to lower property taxes (it is not clear to me by what amount).

My initial blush is: "at least my property taxes were deductible".

Am I looking at this the wrong way? Will I ultimately come out ahead or behind by this shifting of the tax burden? What scenario would ensure that I came out ahead, short of shopping in WV or OH?

FYI: In PA, there is no sales tax on groceries, clothes or Drugs/medical supplies as wall as other minor exceptions.

I have a refund coming to me with 8-13 days (it's already been 10) but a co-worker told me that I won't get my money deposited in my bank until next Tuesday because that's the only day the IRS does that.

Last yr my tax return was around $4500 and my fiance's was about $3700 thanks to EIC. Now I'm finding that because we got married we cannot file separately if we want EIC. We have to combine our income and may be over the amount or if we qualify it will be for far less. Did we lose $5000 a year just by getting married? I thought married couples got a better tax return and larger deductions! I am getting very frustrated! Someone please help me! We have four children between us and really depend on our return to catch things up at the end of the year.

I am not sure what to claim. People have told me to claim the max throughout the year and not let any taxes come out of my checks during the year. They say I will still get a big return. I want to make sure. I would rather have the big return at the end of the year.

I can claim head of household becuase of my daughter. But, I am not sure if I can get the child tax or the additional child tax credit. I cannot seem to figure out if I am eligible.

If I continue to work like I am until the end of the year, my gross income will be like $17529.60. (As close as I can tell) I would appreciate any help that anyone can give me.

Thanks so much.
