I look at it as like i'm giving back to the country for the success that my country made possible. I couldn't have made the money without the backbone, the capitalism, and security that my country provided. To continue this life we enjoy, we must continually give back, and taxes are a real part of that process.

I've been seeing a lot of people that were told that they would recieve their refunds by 1/26 are having problems. What about those that filed a week or so later? I filed on 1/29 and I'm not supposed to get my refund until 2/9/07. I'm just wondering if I'll run into these same problems. The IRS website says to expect it on this coming Friday..has anyone else had a similar message only to go back and see that it changed?

I seen that there is a new tax law that if you use your car for work purposes (running errands) you can use it as a tax deduction. my question is has anyone heard of this and the 44.5 cents a mile i get is not taxed, so can i still use it as a tax deduction?

I'm working on filing my federal taxes. In 2006, I have a summer job in which I brought in about $5,885, as well as a job on campus (exempt from FICA) that brought in $1025. I also earned $108 in interest income (1099-INT) from my bank.

My total federal withholding for the year was $458. I was looking into using H&R Block's tax program to do my taxes...but when I check the box "I can be claimed as a dependent", it knocks my return from $458 to $271. Why? Is there anything I can do?

I am used to using Turbo Tax but this year have to file in 4 states, so with downloading each state, I am thinking it may be less expensive to go to H & R Block. Has anyone had good/bad experience with them? Also, how much does it typically cost?

I am fixing to file my taxes but it is somewhat complicated for me. I wanted to use the turbo tax, but the first half of the year i got a w-2. Then the next three months i got a 1099. Then the last three months i had my own hair business with just myself and i haven't sent any money in yet for that. I don't know if the program has a way to enter both?. Also, the money that I have put back for taxes on the last three months of the year, how do i send that in, and do i send it in evevn if i am entitled to a refund? thanks

She wants to compare it to her W-2 . She was told that check stubs were provided as a convenience and was verbally given totals. Are there any Indiana state laws or Federal laws that state that stubs and copies ARE to be provided at an employee's request?

If we expanded the bracket to lets say 2 million at 37%, then people at the 150,000 or lower would be at a lower tax bracket. Makes sense to me, but it doesn't seem to be an idea coming out of politicians mouths.

I have a full time oppurtunity with 12lacs CTC and a one year contract oppurtunity that will pay me Rs 1.20lacs a month(sum 14.4 lacs) for the year(They will deduct only the std deduction rate of 5.1% and give the rest to me). The contract can be renewed upon completion based on mutual agreement. I have same leave package with both oppurtunites. Both are similar oppurtunities.Which should I choose? I am in a quandry and I need to decide before Friday this week. Please help me decide. I am not sure whether I will make more money with the Contract oppurtunity with the way Indian tax is laid out. Can someone please tell me what are the deductions(like house rent, phone bills, car interest payment, car depreciation etc) that I can deduct for the contract position and what would be my net effective tax. I really appreciate any inputs. Any justifications are welcome.

A friend of mine just found out that no federal tax was taken out all year and now owes the IRS almost $5K. In hindsight, she should've checked her paystub, but when she approached her boss, she blamed my friend saying it's because she only took 1 withholding (which is not true), then said it was the paycheck company's fault. She knows she can get on a payment plan with the IRS, but she's still really upset about how her boss handled it. Wouldn't an employer who uses Quickbooks catch an employee who didn't have a "federal tax" line on their paystub? Should she see a tax attorney?
