I worked in St. Louis for six months (temporary job) from July to December after working in Illinois the previous 6 months. I am now back in IL working. On taxslayer.com, it askes if I want to file part time residency in each IL and MO. Do I have to do that even though it was only a temporary job in MO. Thanks!

I'm doing an essay for school on the ban of cigarettes. I need some help finding articles discussing other things we could place taxes on in the place of the huge tax on cigarettes. We get so many tax dollars from cigarettes and spend it on nesscary things- where would we get this money from if not from the tax, and what exactly do we spend it on, anyway?
Lol.
Any helpful links or opinions?

My employer during the 2006 calender year never issued paychecks/pay stubs. I assumed this was because I worked for tips and any hourly wages were going to pay my taxes. Just recently I was informed that I would not be receiving a W2 neither. I now have no proof that I was working for the year, and I cannot file my taxes. Are the actions of my employer legal? Is there another way to file taxes without this information?

Hi, I was wondering if I could file the 1040ez form. I was claimed as a dependant by my mother. I am 17yrs old. I earned $6645 last year and $408 was withheld from my earnings.
I started to work on the form, but am at a lost with what to do with question #5 (if someone claimed me). Can I even file for taxes, if so will I get anything back.
Thanks

I have made a little less than $2,000 last year. I went to Jackson H to file my tax, but the person there told me that I do not need to file it unless I had made over $3,000. I thought everyone who earns money must file something, even a form for tax examption, according to someone I also talked to. What really is the truth?

Upon reading another answer someone wrote that you do not have to pay taxes on your international flight pay. Has anyone heard anything like this? If true, where do you deduct the international flight off of your 1040? And is the international flight pay included in box 1 on your W-2 form?

I used H&R Block last year to prepare and file my 2005 tax return. I had a refund coming back, and paid the fee to have my state taxes e-filed. My return was rejected by the IRS because of an error. I never corrected it, and never attempted to re-file. Any suggestions as to how I can remedy this now with the least amount of hassle?

I do private contracting DJ work for an agency. They will report Miscellaneous info to the IRS. However they have yet to give me a 1099-MISC. I need this last piece of information to finish my taxes. I am getting a decent refund and wish that they would hurry. Is there anything I can do to work around this? I have a ballpark figure for the amount to report, but I want to be accurate. Please help me!

So I make around $45k a year, have 3 W-2s (two from past jobs), don't own a home or make payments. However, I was given stock and stock dividends from my current employers. Also enrolled in a 401k, no stocks sold, no 401k cashed out. H&R block is pretty pricey and from what i understand Turbo Tax is very easy to use. Any recommendations which I should use?
