We are legally separated, lived apart all of 06', in the process of finalizing the divorce. My son lived with her 10 months but I am custodial parent. Can she file as head of household even though the divorce is not final and we are still legally married? And even though I am court identified as the custodial parent?

I would like to know if my Fiancee can claim my children on his income taxes this year? If it would still go under the category as foster children? We live together, and he is the provider for the home. He is the one who brings in the money. Thanks in advance!

I received a 1098-T form it shows all the amounts i have been billed. Most of the amounts are in loans that i have not paid on. When i enter this information into H & R Block tax calculator i get a substantial amount of refund back. They calculated it with the hope credit. Can i legally claim this if i have not started to pay on the loans.

My girlfriend received a late 1099 after filing her taxes. She wasn't expecting this form because it was for two "free" plane tickets that she won off of the radio. Why should she have to claim this "$800 prize" on her taxes as income? If we used the tickets to fly from Denver to Phoenix round trip, the prize is only worth $300. I thought you only had to claim "winnings" if it's more than $5,000. Anyway, what does she need to do if she's already filed her taxes?

Does it support medical care, etc?
I could really use some links to websites explaining this, as well as links to sites with some sort of an opinion paper on what we could place this tax on instead, or about how we could eliminate it compleatly if we were to ban smoking nationwide.
I'm doing a persuasive essay for school in which I am persuading the people in my class to support a nationwide smoking ban.
Help is greatly appreciated. =)

I am told that the interest payments plus the real estate taxes are itemized on Schedule A and deducted from my income.

Are there any calculation tables or programs out there which can figure out my tax bracket and savings?

I would like to figure out how much mortgage and taxes I can afford and I would think that the amount of tax savings should be a major factor. people tell me how the tax breaks are great, but I would want to calculate exactly what my savings would be just I I would calculate my monthly mortgage payment and property taxes. It seems to me people don't seem to really calculate this before taking the plunge.

I was offered a job that will be in NYC for 3 months and then move to NJ for the remained of 2007. I understand I will have NYC and state taxes withheld for the 3 months. What are the implications of this situation? Will I be taxed on my entire yearly income in NY or just for 3 months? How will the tax credits work?

Last year most of my family lived together. My mom and I signed the lease and took care of most of the bills, etc. She's already filed and claimed my little brother (who is 18, goes to school, and doesn't work). Could I also claim him, considering we both provided for him? From what I read from the IRS, it seems possible, as the rule about one of us providing more than 50% of his support doesn't apply to son/brothers.

I recently started my own consulting job for a company I used to work for. They need extra help and I told them I would. I used my social security number as my tax ID number for my end of year taxes when that comes. Is there anything else I need to fill out as well? The employer will NOT be taking taxes out of my check. I think they said they will send me a 1099 form with everything on it at the end of the year. What is this? also, what would be an appropriate percentage for me to take out of each check and set aside so that I can pay taxes next year on this. Is there anything else I may need to know? Thanks Everyone!

I will be doing all of my taxes myself. How would I go about filing taxes quarterly. I am just used to filing my taxes at the end of the year.

I am getting back a large refund this year and I would like to see a little bit more on my weekly check and get a smaller return next year. The w4 form suggested I claimed 6 but that just sounds too high...I don't want any risk of having to pay next year. I claim 1 now and am getting back $5000 any suggestions on how many to claim to get back around $2500 next year?

Now I owe the government $120, according to the tax lady. Good thing I'm having my taxes done now instead of April 17th.

And to go along with that, if I were to ride my tuition and books off on my taxes, I would probably only get $160 to $180 back but still need to pay the government the $120. And if my parents ride it off on their taxes, they get over $200 that they're probably going to keep. They'll probably give me the $120 to pay back Uncle Sam, but still, I don't think that's right to have my parents get more back for my tuition and books that I would if I were to ride those off.

My soon to be husband knows nothing about filling out W2's and neither do I. He cant remember what he filled out when applying for his recent job bc he gave the lady at the front dest his W2 to fill out for him, yes I know stupid. We arent getting married until September 2007 so he should put what on his W2's and do what when he files this year for taxes? And then what should he change it to when we get married? We have no children either. I dont understand the whole single and 1 or single and zero or married and zero, understand what im saying hopefully. We would or he would rather take out the least amount on his paychecks, we arent too worried about getting a huge return. So can someone just tell us EXACTLY what we are supposed to do but maybe in a easy way to understand please. I hate to even ask this question but we both are at a lost and I dont want the office lady to put something down to cause us problems in the future. Thanks!

Last year my employer withheld about $1000 for Federal Income Tax. However, I also refinanced my house, which I thought would give me a bigger tax break (i.e. greater morgage interest = larger refund). Yet I am finding with TurboTax, no matter how I input the numbers, the max I get back is $1000. Is this correct? My friend, who is married with 2 dependents, says she gets a lot more back then what is withheld from her paycheck. Where am I going wrong? Thanks in advance!

I used to carry nine different types of bath & body products, but in October of last year I opted to carry only my best selling product, and dropped the rest. Where on the Schedule C do I inform the IRS that the inventory that was eliminated was not sold or still on hand? Any help would be SO greatly appreciated!!!

Does this mean that they agree with the calculations?

What is the likelyhood of being audited after your return has been accepted?

Does this lower the probability of being audited?

Or does it just mean they are acknowledging they have recieved a a complete tax return regardless of what you actually put down?
