I had thousands of dollars in medical expenses in 2006. Insurance paid quite a bit of the bills (new knee) but it also cost
me alot of money, other than what insurance paid. Could you
please give me the percentages needed to qualify for medical
expenses. Thank you

I am under the impression that no such law exists, but I would love for you to prove me wrong. So, I challenge you to find for me the written law stating that an American must pay a Federal Income Tax.

I e-filed on Feb. 3. On Tuesday the "Where's my refund" said they were processing my return and if no mistakes we would receive it by Feb 20. How long does it usually take before it informs me they have accepted my return? Also my tax preparer told me it would deposit on the 16. Which is correct?

So, I'm not looking for specific tax advice because I've already filed my 2006 taxes.

But I'm still left with wondering what the answer is to this question.

We received a refund in 2006 from our 2005 taxes. Now, when filing our 2006 taxes, we're supposed to declare the refund as taxable income.

Why is that? It seems like it's double taxation. (I realize that double taxation happens all the time...look at the death tax!) But still, can anyone explain this to me? Please cite your sources. Thank you.

I help people for free who don't know how to do their taxes. This person works all year in the trades, he is not highly educated and I have reason to know he has little in the way of material possesions and he works all the time? If he is being victimized, does he have to be the one to complain?

What's the legal deadline, & how can I make sure they mail it to me?
Thanx.

My brother is able to deduct the interest he pays on his farm equipment, and I'm able to deduct the interest I pay on a student loan... so I was wondering if anyone knows if it's possible (or legal) to deduct the interest paid on an auto loan come tax time?

My boyfriend and his ex have a signed legal document by their lawyer saying that in even years he claims her, on odd years she does. She is always broke and decided she wanted to go ahead and claim her this year. She already has her refund and went and bought a new tv with it. He has legal documentation saying it is his year to claim her. I've heard once he sends in his taxes along with the letter proving it is his year to claim her, she will have to repay the money she was refunded for her, and if this is not possible, could serve jail time. Anybody know anything more about this??

I dont understand why if I claim one all year long, when it comes time to file my federal taxes, why do I owe? Shouldnt it be if you claim one all year, when you file your taxes you should atleast break even? I owe money! However, I get money back from state. I dont understand!

I did work I just got paid under the table. I paid my own bills and have reciepts from paying my own rent out of my own checking account and also my Lease from my apartment. Will getting paid under the table open up a can of worms?

Also I was not in school at all. In June 2006 I got a new job working full time which is why I filed taxes this year. I made over $10,000. My father nor my mom in no way supports me and I have not lived with my mom or my dad in the past 4 years. I have been living with my fiance for the past 3 1/2 years. Maybe I worded some things wrong. Anyway Thanx for all the advice and any more advice that you can offer.

A friend already submitted her taxes (TurboTax) and now received notice of a $300.00 penatly for withdrawing money from her 401K sometime during 2006. She attempted to amend her taxes but when she put in the penatly... her tax refund did not go down by the expected $300.00, instead it decreased about $150.00. Any particular reason for this... what is she doing wrong in ammending her tax return?

I am still legally married, but I have no idea where my husband is. He was deported nearly 4 years ago, and we have no contact. So my question is, how do I file my US income tax return? Should I file as single? I can't really file as married, since both people need to sign the return. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am a college student with w-2s from different states and Jackson Hewitt said it would be about $150 to file. Should I do it myself, I mean what more could they do for me? Also, what form would I use for a college student paying plenty for tuition and everything else? Thank you for the help.
