I've never had to do them before, so what would be the best way considering my age and amount of money?

Congratulations - impressive earnings for age 15.

Was this on a W-2 job, or self-employment? If self-employment, you 'll need a schedule C or C-EZ, schedule SE, and 1040. If you got a W-2 for the $9K, then you can file a 1040EZ.

Your parents are, I assume, able to claim you as a dependent. On the 1040-EZ, there's a box on line 5 to check to say you are a dependent. If you file a 1040, do NOT check box 6A.

1040EZ

But please make sure you check with your parents because if they claim you as a dependent, you will not be able to claim yourself on your tax return, but you can still file your taxes and you'd have to use form 1040 instead of a 1040 ez I believe! There will be a question that asks you if you can be claimed on someone else's tax return and you answer YES (if that is the case)

1040ez

Its very straight forward, its almost hard to mess up. There is an instruction manual for it that simplifies everything.
