if i made over $41,000 by myself last year, with no dependents and single and my taxes withheld were almost $2500 but i go to school also and i work as a waitress, how does that make sense? 15% of the wages has to be deducted, am i correct or does it depend on the way human resources calculates the amounts for each employee? because i have to claim 11% of my tips (cash) that i walk with but claim all tips to the cent. how does that actually work?

I'm 22 years old I have not spoken with my father in 3 years. For the past 2 years I didn't file taxes because I wasn't working. My mom just informed me that my father had been claiming on his taxes. I didn't find out until it was taking way to long for my refund to come back . FInally the place where I filed called and said I had already been claimed by someone. I thought that since I was not in school and not living with him or on his health coverage he could not claim me. If anyone knows what I can do please let me know. I want he penalized for the past 3 years that he has claimed me on his taxes. Is there anything the IRS can do.

I'm a student and didn't file the 1040 EZ for my part time job last year. I know I was supposed to get like $600 (roughly) back. Is there a fine or penalty if I do both this years and last years? Will I not the my $600 or get less? How does it work? Thanks in advance.

Today I went onto H and R blocks website and saw they had a free tax estimator - so that you wouldnt be surprised when you went to get your taxes done when you found out how much youre getting back or how much you owed! I typed my info in (not sure if i did it right though) and it said i owed almost $35000!!!! I am freaking out. The thing thats making it go up is this: Last year I sold my house, that i only lived in for 1 year and 1 month. The guy that bought it took out a loan for $107000 but i sold my house for $98800, which means he got extra money in his loan for his personal use. I made $6500 profit on my house. I got a 1099 form from the closing lawyers office stating i sold the house for $107000 which i did not because i sold the house for $98800. when i put 107000 in on the HR block website it said i owed $35000!!!!!! Is this correct? please help!

Now that it is tax season and I'm new to this country, could somebody please tell me what it is we (a couple) can write off?
We recently moved state, both of us attended some college courses, have 2 dogs(?) frequently donate to charity etc.
If we can infact write off moving expenses, then how? It's not like we kept every gas receipt when we filled up, so how does it work?
Thanks.

Ok, my husband does not have a regular office-he is a union contractor. He goes from job site to job site. He may do this many times in an eight hour day.
He put about 25,000 miles on his truck. Uses it only for work. What can we claim on this? I am confused here because there were about 4 questions in this area. (Using Turbo Tax)
Anyone have a clue? Thanks!

I just wanted to find out from others who are having their refund delayed if they filed using Turbo Tax.com. My refund was suppose to be refunded to me on 1-26. On the 26th when I called the IRS said that my refund had been refunded to my account, but when I called SBBT they informed me that they had not received my money. Therefore, I called the IRS and was told that there was a delay in the processing of, not only my return, but 72,000 other returns. Please give any information that you can about this. Thnx

My wife and I began the adoption process in 2005 which included a deposit with our tax agency to initiate their services. We have just received a baby but will not finalize the adoption until July or August of 2007. We have just paid the adoption fee to the agency and were unable to get any help from my employer for any adoption expenses. I assume we will have to wait until next year to claim the adoption credit. Will we be able to claim the deposit we paid to our agency in 2005 next year? Also, does the credit apply dollar for dollar or for the maximum amount allowed by the government?
