NO!!! You can only claim out of pocket expenses you PAID in that year. Don't forget to write off all prescriptions, mileage to the doctor and back, to the pharmacy and back, hospitals etc...... Also you can write off an eye exam and eyeglasses wheelchairs and even crutches if you needed them. The minimum you can deduct however is 7.5% of your gross income. For example: If you made $100,000, you can only claim anything over $7,500 in medical costs. Meaning if you had $8,000 in medical, you could only write off $500.

Only if the person whose medical expenses you are paying has died and all of the medical expenses will be paid within one year of the date of death.
