My husband and I made $74k last year, we have one son and our return was $6100.00, trust me I am not complaining but it seems like too much, I think i am just scared that its gonna come back to haunt us or something and we will end up owing it back or something, I dont know, am I just being paranoid?

we do not own a business, we both claim zero all year and we do not have additional withheld. He made $68k and I made $6k they withheld $11k from him and like $500 from me. so we got like half back.

Do you mean refund?

did you deduct anything you shouldn't have?

do you own a business?

If you did pay in that much extra in federal income taxes, you probably should adjust your withholding next year, so the government isn't getting so much of your money interest free!

That does not sound like too much to me. First I would have to ask you how many dependents you claimed. I filed head of household. I made 20,000 and have two children. My refund amout was 4,844.00 That includs a refund for EIC of 3,596.00

i filed head of household, made $20k and have 1 dependent and my return is $1346. so actually it doesn't sound too high to me. depending on who you used to file your taxes, there should be an audit service available, should you be audited. they would help with the process and go over everything with you to resolve any problems.

It really depends on your deductions - interest on mortgages and student loans are deductible - so depending on how much interest you paid throughout the year, your refund can really grow fast. Were your taxes professionally done or did you do them yourselves?
