You would need to use the 1040 and The Schedule A to claim charitable deductions. That is an itemized deduction, if your total itemized deductions are lower than your standard deduction amount you would not claim the Charitable contributions. In that case you could use the 1040A

Charitable donations are itemized on Schedule A of Form 1040. Form 1040A does not support itemized deductions.

And the only reason that you would is if the total of all possible itemized deductions you're entitled to exceeds the standard deduction.

If you want to claim charitable contributions, you have to file 1040 and use Schedule A for itemized deductions. Charitable contributions are claimed as itemized deductions. This means that you won't get a benefit from the charitable contributions unless the sum of those contributions, plus any other itemized deductions you have, exceeds the standard deduction for your filing status.

you don't since you don't itemize on a 1040A - you use the "standard deduction"
