I have court documentation showing that my X owes me money & was ordered to pay. I have taken him back to court several times do to the fact he is not making payments that was court ordered. He tells the courts he can't pay because he is not working very much (gets pd under the table). He does work, every day. Can I put some type of lien on his State Taxes?

I worked as an independent contractor for firm in 2006. For the time worked from Nov to mid Dec they paid it in 2006 and for the time worked between dec 15th to dec 31st they paid it in january.

They sent me a 1099 that doesn't include the payment they made in January for the time worked in december.
Is this correct?
Shouldn't they count the payment made in Jan towards my 2006 income?
thanks
vinay

I also have a son that lives with me, so shouldn't I claim head of household? I am not good at taxes and I want to make sure I know what to ask for before I take mine somewhere!

I called my past place of emplyment on Feb. 1st to make sure my W2 had been mailed. I was told that they were mailed the night before.

I called again on the 5th after not recieving it, and I was told that some of them had been held to see if they would be personally picked up, and that they were mailed that day if they weren't taken.

I didn't think an employer could do that, and they should have known I would not pick it up, I had already called and been told it was in the mail.

Today is the 7th, and they keep giving me the run-around about when it will be mailed.

What can I do if it is postmarked later than the 31st? Can I contact the IRS? How do I do that? I am very angry!

My girfriend and I own a home together. It would be more benifcial to her if she could claim all interest on the 1098. Under what circumstances is this acceptable?

I'm 21 and I claimed 0 exemptions on my W-4. I wanted to know if I can claim a personal exemption for myself when I go file my taxes. I heard that if you claim 0 on your W-4 the IRS takes out more for taxes and you get back less. But if you claim 0 on your W-4 and then at the end of the year you claim 1 exemption, you could get a bigger refund. (I can be claimed as a dependent.)

I know IRS wants $ amounts. I insisted in getting some $ evaluation from the charity, or a disclosure of the price the car has been auctioned for, but this organization stands firm. They say they can only confirm my donation without getting into the financial aspect. They advised me to discuss the issue "with my accountant". I do not have one and I don't think it is worth spending extra money just for clarifying this issue.

What is the best (i.e. quickest and easiest) online e-filing website for taxes? I used one last year that was a nightmare. We have our taxes done by a CPA, but he doesn't have electronic filing and I refuse to pay someone else to e-file them for me.

When I initially went to prepare my taxes the lady was telling me that congress was passing a new bill in a week or so that would allow you to deduct the general sales tax from the closing of your house on your taxes. She said I could come back mid-March and do an amendment. Does anyone know anything about this?

so, a little background... we are newly married (march '06), new homeowners (april '06) and now its tax time. I was going to do the taxes myself and was extremely excited for the "big" refund everyone was talking about but it told be we owe $900 dollars. Could that be?! we have interest deducted, and we both have jobs where taxes are taken out. i just can't believe that we would have to pay. any insight would be appreciated as to why that would be. like i said, i am new to this... thanks in advance!

Here's my situation:
1. My wife and I got married at October 2006.
2. My wife works in California whole year 2006
3. I work in Texas whole year 2006
4. We bought a house together in Texas on February 2006
5. Texas doesn't have Income tax but California does
My question is:
1. Which one should we use? "Married filing jointly" or "Married filing separately"?
2. if "jointly", do I need to file California state income tax?
3. if "separately", can my wife deduct half the proterty tax and interest cost because of the Texas house?
