I called my past place of emplyment on Feb. 1st to make sure my W2 had been mailed. I was told that they were mailed the night before.

I called again on the 5th after not recieving it, and I was told that some of them had been held to see if they would be personally picked up, and that they were mailed that day if they weren't taken.

I didn't think an employer could do that, and they should have known I would not pick it up, I had already called and been told it was in the mail.

Today is the 7th, and they keep giving me the run-around about when it will be mailed.

What can I do if it is postmarked later than the 31st? Can I contact the IRS? How do I do that? I am very angry!

This year employers have until February 2 and the IRS can, at its discretion, fine the employer up to $50 per W2. They usually will only issue a fine if the employer misses the March 2, deadline for the Federal copies. As the IRS is delaying refunds (the feds are broke), I doubt you will get them to do anything and it probably wouldn't allow you to get your money much quicker anyway.

Come on, be reasonable. Take a chill pill!

If you can pick it up, do so. Ask them to fax you a copy. There is no need to report an employer for being a little late. The IRS won't do anything yet anyway - won't even talk about it until after 2/15.

There is no law that states the w-2 has to be sent out by Jan 31st. That is a myth. The IRS does request that all tax documents be sent by that date, but there is no law.

If you don't get a W-2 take all your pay stubs, from that time with you to who ever does your taxes, they can figure everything out from the pay stubs.

First off, chill out!

The IRS won't take calls on missing W2s until 2/15. If you have it by then, just file your taxes and forget about it. The IRS will only be focusing on those taxpayers who have not received them by then.

It is the LAW that every employer you worked for during 2006 mail you a W-2. Since you didn't receive it, call the IRS. They will help you.

Be Donald Trump and say "Your Fired!". But for it to have effect you need the cool hair.
