Hi, I was wondering if I could file the 1040ez form. I was claimed as a dependant by my mother. I am 17yrs old. I earned $6645 last year and $408 was withheld from my earnings.
I started to work on the form, but am at a lost with what to do with question #5 (if someone claimed me). Can I even file for taxes, if so will I get anything back.
Thanks

Not only can you, you MUST file your taxes since you made more than $5,150. It's not hard. just answer the questions. Someone else claimed you.

Hi there! My son is 17 years old too and he filed the 1040EZ form. He is a student and also has a part time job...only made about $3000 last year but was able to get a refund of all his federal taxes he paid. I claimed my son as a dependent too. You can be claimed as a dependent on your mom's form and still file your own taxes and get a refund! :)
