So I'm getting married in December of this year, and I'm wondering if I get to claim married for the whole year of 2007 on the taxes I file next April or if we file separately for the first year of our marriage. Thanks!

if you get married on 12/31/2007 at 11:59pm, you are considered married the whole year. In fact, you can't file any other way but married.

It doesn't matter if only one of you had income - prior post gave wrong info on this point.

The only thing that matters is your marital status on Decamber 31 of that year. You will have no choice but to file married for 2007.

As long as you are married before January 1, 2008 then you can file as married.

If you are married on December 31, 2007, you are considered married for the entire year. You may want to look at your income and your wife's (future wife's) income to see whether you might get hit with a marriage penalty. If you do, you may want to consider making adjustments to your withholdings earlier than later.

As long as you're married by Dec 31, you're considered married for the entire year. Normally you'll pay the least tax by filing a joint return.

Your filing status is what you are as of 12/31/07. So, you were married as of them, your choices would be married filing joint or married filing separately.

As long as there is any income made after the marriage date than you can file married and jointly for the whole year. My husband and I got married September 23, 2006 and we claimed married and filed jointly for all of our earnings in 2006.

This will save you on taxes rather than filing separately.

Best of luck to you in your upcoming marriage!
